As a matter of interest did you give Harte an assist for our first goal yesterday?

No. I considered it, but handing the ball to the ref for a game of ping-pong, doesn't seem much like an assist to me.

I considered giving Hunty an assist for his header (but didn't)

West Ham's win at Leicester brings their form up to equal Southampton's over the same period

1 39 26-07-06 64-31 +33 85 Points 2.18 ppg - Reading = 100 Point Season

2 39 20-10-09 66-38 +28 70 Points 1.79 ppg - Southampton = 82 Point Season
3 39 19-13-07 64-40 +24 70 Points 1.79 ppg - West Ham = 82 Point Season

4 40 17-15-08 68-44 +24 66 Points 1.65 ppg - Birmingham
5 39 17-12-10 69-52 +17 63 Points 1.62 ppg - Blackpool
6 39 15-16-08 55-46 +09 61 Points 1.56 ppg - Cardiff City

Basically, both Saints and West Ham, over these 39 games have been performing overall "solidly" but
not like clear automatic-promotion candidates, but are up there because they started well

LWWDWW = 13 Points @ 2.17 ppg West Ham
WWWWLW = 15 Points @ 2.50 ppg Southampton

This is why we won the league. If you are solid defensively, but have 5 players in your team who average a goal or assist every 2 games, you will win most of them.

Snowball 14 Games to go, 57 Points. 2 ppg = 28 pts and that will be 85 Points

That's enough for auto, may be enough for top.

9 wins from 14 games (3 wins less than the latest 14 games) will get us up.

It turns out that 85 wasn't even enough for 3rd

Bizarre that, as it worked out, 77 would have got 3rd, but 85 turned out to be not enough for an automatic place
and in fact 89 was required (as it stands) to be certain.

Ahem. 86 was 3rd. If a team had got 77, they would have been 4th. If the team who came 4th had got 85 - they would still have been 4th.

To get 3rd, you need to beat the team in 4th. It's that simple. You're not inserting a new team into the league to make it 25 strong.

Understand where you are coming from, Syd.

You could argue "Team X" (West Ham) GOT 86 therefore 87 was required for third" (in this particular season, if you were Club Y)

or

The Team in 4th got 76, so all that was required for 3rd was one more point (77) or 76 and a better GD
