Friday's Legacy Andrew, isn't he contracted until 2014?
by Snowball » 06 May 2012 09:12
andrew1957 I have never understood the negativity towards Antonio from many on here. Whenever I have seen him play he looks like a talented young player who is learning his trade and it has come as no surprise to me that he has done well at Sheff Wed.
This summer is decision time, however, as he only has a year left on his contract.
Personally I would like us to extend it for two more years and then loan him back to Sheff Wed (they seem to love him there) for the season. A season in the Championship would do him the world of good and hopefully he could step up to the PL in the future.
In the meantime congratulations to him. There cannot be many payers that have won a Championship medal and League 1 runners up medal in the same season.

Hi FL
No 2013 unless it has been extended again but not announced - see link below.

PistolPete I'd love it if Reading could sign Antonio, he's young and hungry, definitely got the 'Reading' DNA and has proven hat he can play in front of a big crowd. Norwich and Southampton proved that it's not a big step from League 1 to the premiership but I can see some top teams in for him. WCBAP but definitely worth trying our luck with.
Alternatively, let's ship him out because like Cummings, Long, Federici, Pearce...he hasn't made an immediate impact.

At four years in to his Reading career I think we've gone past the immediate impact stage.

And as Sandman says, it's not like he hasn't had the opportunities at this level.

Same false issues as we had with Shane Long.
A smattering of sub appearances and just four
league starts in 3 seasons. Hardly a real chance.
But he has done well when given a run by other teams

Yes, well done Snowball, but in league 1, not at our level.
You're always saying how Brian knows best, well doesn't that apply here also? He quite clearly doesn't think that Antonio is good enough to make an impact for us at the moment, why else would he have sent him out on loan and brought Cywka in?

Elliott To be fair, you look at how Arsenal fans rely on Oxlade-Chaimberlin to turn at game around now when he was a League 1 player last season so you never know if Antonio could be effective in the Prem...

SCIAGElliott Antonio is 22, the same age as Henry. He's performed to about the same level in a lower league. Personally I think it would be best for all three parties if we took the tremendous fee we have been offered, Sheffield Wednesday get their best winger back, and Antonio gets regular secure playing time.

Many possibilities. One being he is looking at Antonio long-term
and Cwyka was an easy-fit stop-gap 4th winger cover going cheap
and was expendable (as it turned out) while Antonio need
developing either for RFC or to make some money as a transfer.
SIMPLES!
