I know we should all have moved on from this years ago, but I must confess to being a tad gleeful.

Bolton didn't cheat to beat us in 1995 did they? I can't believe the reaction to this on Twitter.

Actually, they did.

Jason McAteer had already been booked when he brought Gilkes down for the penalty when through on goal.
Should have been a straight red, at least should have been a second yellow.

He had the temerity to set up two of the goals, as well.

To be fair, shouldn't the ref be hated 17 years later then?

...this is a discussion I had with Cube some 10 years ago - still to this day I can't forgive how we were kicked off the Wembley turf that day - McAteer should have gone for sure - poetic justice that Coyle took them down!!

Cube to be fair to him takes a more reasoned view!

Must admit, it crossed my mind when it was confirmed Bolton were relegated.

Agree that McAteer should of been given a second yellow card, but you cannot blame or hate a team for trying to win. It was a mistake from the ref afterall. Can't really remember the handball incident to be honest.

What I do remember well and still leaves a bad taste in my mouth was the behavior of the Bolton fans as we were leaving Wembley. They seemed more intent on rubbing it in as opposed to celebrating their own success. For this alone, I have no sympathy for them, except for Fabrice for whome I still prey for every day.

Tbh I hate QPR and am gutted that they survived. I also think they'll be quite strong next season based upon their recent form and the strength in their squad.

Not great news Bolton went instead. And the years of hurt ended in 2006 for me; this season has made up for the far shorter period of hurt since 2008.

We got revenge on Bolton when we did them 3-2 at home with Quinn in goal. We erased the hurt of failing in that final when we won the league and broke the points record.

I'd have much preferred to see Bolton survive and QPR go down. I've come round to Coyle watching as a manager and in purely selfish way, Bolton would be less threat than QPR, who have money and a good manager. Although he does have a fair bit of rebuilding work to do to give them an actual team.
