Why would anybody bother anyway and surely Graham, who runs the website access, would refuse access from the same person with the same e-mail address if requested on numerous occasions. Nope. Not according to my source who knows him very well. You have to remember the days of chucking large sums at players is over apart from the 'big' teams. Wigan may be in the Prem but their gates are crap and they are not a very attractive destination.

One assumes that his current contract does not run out until 30 June and so he is still technically contracted to Forest until then.

I assume we can say he has signed a pre contract agreement that comes into force from 1 July - but just wondered what the rules are.

Anyone know?

I'm not sure, but Arsenal announced Podolski a while ago, so I dont see why we couldn't announce McCleary...

Apparently you can only sign pre-contracts with clubs in other countries. So indeed you are correct - its also a bit disrespectful to the club paying your wages for another month and a half, which is a lot of money. You are of course allowed to talk to anyone within a "notice period" which I believe mirrors the pre-contract 6 months, but I think its unusual to brazenly sign in public.

So that is a very good point. It looks like Glen Little signed for us on 1 July on a free, announced a few days before, and when he left he signed for Pompey in late June.

This thread has another 4-6 weeks to go!

You can buy players as Arsenal have or Leeds have with Pearce from Pompey - but the difference with McCleary is that he is leaving against Forest’s wishes. They have offered him a new deal so he does not become a free agent until 1 July.
