Geekins Rhodes>>>Doyle

This is probably the most ridiculous thing ever written on HNA.

 Take off your RTG first then think again. Doyle for £5m then not a chance - waste of money considering we sold him for not much more than that. I'm a massive Doyle fan, honestly.

And that in itself takes some beating.

That makes no sense at all.

We sold him for about £6m. We buy him back for about £5m. He still has many years of football left in him. He is a starting international striker for a country who have made the Euros, and he will be playing in the Premier League next season, one way or another. How is that a waste of money?

TBF He is not a waste of money, that implies he is no good.

They will struggle to sell him for £5m though.

Would you play him above Roberts Hunt or Alf?

If Hoilett is in the region of £5m that is where I would spend my money.

Doyle is in the prime of his career at 28, already proven at Prem level, with international experience, and at the end of last season was being linked with teams like Arsenal. He's had a bad season, of course, but playing up front in that Wolves team would demoralise the best of us. We've seen his qualities and we know he adds a huge amount more to the team than just poaching.

Rhodes has had two excellent seasons, but in League 1, playing for a team at the top end of the league. What's more his all-round play is not great...as a result of which he has been left on the bench by managers in important games in the past. (eg last year's L1 play-off final)

So to say 'Rhodes >>> Doyle' at this stage is utterly ludicrous.

The rhodes comparison doesn't work. Doyle had one excellent season in the Championship until he made the step up to the PL. L1 is better than the Irish leagues where Doyle came from. Doyle to Arsenal, just speculation like Defoe to us... really never going to happen!

If he comes here then good luck to him but i think fresh blood would be more exciting and also wanting to prove he can make it. Still Rhodes >>>Doyle for me.

Yeah, Doyle is comfortably the better all round player. Wouldn't want to spend £5m on either of them though.

Doyles was the same age as Rhodes is today when he hit 18 champ goals in his first full season in English football. His total championship record is 36 in 81 games. Frankly I would be bloody surprised if Doyle couldn't match Rhodes 36 third tier goals in one season. He'd be in the 30s that's for sure.

That's before you remember that unlike Rhodes, theres more to Doyle's game than goals. Can't put a price on that ball retention at the other end of the park. None to touch him there.

Admittedly he's had a poor year for Wolves, but 12 months ago top top teams were sniffing around him and no surprise. This guy has scored 37 premier league goals! For the likes of Reading and Wolves! Premier league! V man u etc, not Mansfield!
He's fit again now and in need of a fresh start. Did I mention 10 international goals too?

Franky I'd want him back even if was crap as I loved watching him play for us and he's the one 106er who left with dignity and regret.

But he's class. When Jordan Rhodes has scored 47 first class goals then a comparison is fitting. But by then Doyle will have more, hopefully in blue and white.

£5m seems a bit steep for Doyle. I agree on the points about him not being a lot of use in a team that struggles. That's because he doesn't really produce his own goals and works so hard for the team though. Not because he hides.

I'd rather not go back for him personally, but he'd be a decent signing for about £3m and work well with Roberts. He's better than Hunt, Church or Manset, always has been, and always will be. He's currently better than Le Fondre and probably always will be.

He's a great player, and looked like one of the few Wolves players who could turn a game around for them the second half of the season. I remember watching him in his last season and thinking that he was easily one of the best players we'd ever seen in a Reading shirt. His first touch is amazing and he has a decent goalscoring record at all levels. I'd welcome him back, although I'm always reluctant to see former players returning because they rarely meet the 'legendary' standards they left with...

Good player and good memories but do we really need to go back? If so, then 5 million is a very stupid figure as that is far too high.

Which "one excellent season in the Championship" would that have been? The one where he scored 18 goals or the other one where he scored 18 goals?

How many times have you seen Rhodes play?

Being more excited about the signing does not = him being a better player. I'm with you, I'd probably rather we signed Rhodes because he's clearly got real potential.

BUT

For now anyone who even tries to claim that a guy who's scored goals at L1 level is better than someone with 5 years premiership experience; won the Wolves' player of the season award in their first season in the top flight, playing a huge part in keeping them up; and with 46 international caps is (IMHO) severely misguided.
