Other than the money, one of the main things that stands out in the Premier League, especially at the top clubs, is that a lot of the players are built like cruiserweights. They are solid, the tackles feel stronger and the tussles are that much harder to win. (Antonio Valencia once blocked a clearance of mine and I swear it was like being hit by a car. That's what I remember thinking as several fans helped me out of the stand and back on the pitch.)

My empathy for Liverpool’s £35m striker comes from having suffered quite spectacularly in the wake of a big‑money move of my own....because I know how utterly humiliating it can be.

Kitson hasn't got children, so I'd be surprised if he was squirreling away a university fund. Kevin Davies seems much more plausible than anyone else.

It's more likely to be any footballer who's got lots of worth squirrelled in investments, property and the like but has relatively little liquid assets and cash floating around.

Not that I'm at all bothered who the secret footballer is, but I'd say most likely it's a number of players feeding their experiences into a ghost writer.

It's definitely more than one footballer IMO. Most of it ties to Kitson but one of the articles mentions him being racially abused at a game with his Dad in the 70's, so from that you would perhaps assume he's not white.

I think its a team of three. Some of them scream "well-established, well-established black centre forward who's been around a bit but never been a superstar", some of them are "midfielder, played for a smaller club and had moderate success at a massive club but never a superstar, played the straight man to a local hero of the massive club" and some have intimate knowledge of the RFC team of 2005/6.
