What about getting "Big" Ron out of retirement?

Dave Whelan said one day Martinez would manage a 'top team'. I suppose he can use Liverpool as a stepping stone until that happens.

Victor Meldrew I think you miss the point.
The Liverpool fans are disappointed that he got the sack because they desperately wanted him to succeed, not that the club has sacked him.

Really? Not one of the fans quoted on the news channels have indicated this interpretation.

They realise that he is probably now out of touch with the world

You mean that his stance on racism in football belongs back in the 1980s?

I doubt there was much about it on CBBC or whatever news channel you have been watching.
Your point about racism is unfounded-have you personally spoken to him about his views on racism?
You have assumed that because he stood behind his employee means that he advocated racism-a misguided stance based on loyalty maybe but hardly unconditional evidence of him being a racist.

Apologies but I'm of the belief that standing by principles should be preferred and not the misguided stance of blind-fully and willfully ignoring the elephant in the room. If you don't take steps to actively rid the game of racism and racist undertones, then you are as bad as them - IMO. He decided to try sweep things under the carpet rather than dealing with it honestly and openly.

But of course, you can't seem to engage in a sensible discussion, as usual. Can you not resort to poor bant/no bant retorts?

The Liverpool fans on my Facebook are all throwing their toys out because they deserve a bigger and better [proven] name than Martinez.

The hardest part of the job at Anfield will be managing the supporters' expectations. Unrealistically high after the shambles that was the last 4 years of Benitez, Hodgson and Dalglish. Will Martinez be "allowed" to do things his way?

Didn't Wigan beat Liverpool this season - so really Martinez is better than KKK already

Martinez is far too good for that club, and certainly too good for those retarded fans

Maguire Yep, i'm not sure passing on rumours you read on Twitter which turned out to be inaccurate/untrue is really worth a 8)

Fair - I'll rescind my 8) and hand it back to the 8) OC

If I see it on TV in the lobby can I get it back at a later date?

Sorry lad I think you must have wandered on to the wrong website.
Take a look back at this and most other topics and you will see very little evidence of the "sensible discussion" that you desire.
This site is full of mainly senselless discussion and mild abuse posted by mainly childish people-hadn't you sussed that?

WARNING-sensible aspect coming up:-
As for your bold and rather arrogant stance on racism what about the edict of "innocent until proven guilty" which surely is of similar importance.
With Dalglish and T-shirtgate this was an example of that edict.
It may have been ill-judged but many employers stand by their man in the first instance (Cameron/Hunt in recent days).
Dalglish may have been wrong by continuing to stand by his man but that was the judgement of somebody with a poor PR mechanism at his club and whereas he (like a lot of people) regards Evra as a whingeing little toe-rag he probably should have eased back on his support for his player just as Fergie eventually did with the reprehensible Cantona and Chelsea seem to have done with Terry.
Personally I am still with Blatter that whatever is said on the pitch in the heat of battle stays on the pitch and ends with a handshake rather than "Sir,this boy said something horrible to me".
Then again I grew up in different times when there was no such obsession with all things racist beyond the countless other ills that affect our society and the coverage of the "offences" committed by Terry annd Suarez have IMHO had disproportionate coverage to the seriousness of those offences.

WOW - if ever you want to give the impression that you support racism, just keep going.

Back on the subject of Dalglish and Suarez, the comparison you give are flawed.
Both Chelsea and Man Utd have publicly declared support for Terry and Cantona respectively, but then let the process take its course.
The fans may have more to say, but the club and management have tended in both cases to deflect questions without the 'high and mighty' KKKenny 'I'm a victim' mentality.
Don't get me wrong, Cantona should have and Terry should (if found guilty) face the same sanctions as if a fan had committed the same offences at a match - a two year ban from ANY football grounds.

Hardly a surprise. Let's not forget that some Reading fans threw toys out of the pram at the appointments of the then "unknowns" Alan Pardew and Brian McDermott. And other club's fans would do just the same all across the leagues. Let's also not forget that Liverpool are approaching several "names" supposedly so it's not a done deal by a long way (& they'll probably end up bringing Rafa back)

I agree it's not surprising, but it's still funny to see them wanting the biggest names in world football to come to a club in their state.

Do you not have the acumen to adjust, or are you merely conceding defeatand accepting you are just as bad as the worst on here?

I see you continue to persist with this derogatory style of address based on an assumption between yourself and I.

Sad times if this is the message that you teach the emerging generations who absorb your attitude to such issues

So your argument is 'its OK I'm not bothered about racism because back in the day our ethnics would just sit back and accept it so I don't think this situation is that bad'?

When I find myself siding with Blatter, I tend to look at my thought process and find out when I turned into a sexist misogynist cnut of a man.

I don't recall exactly, but I think Benitez managed the European Cup win, then a 2nd and 3rd over three or four seasons. Then the Americans came in, the money dried up (relatively) and he struggled.

I don't think Benitez would be a bad appointment under the new regime.

southbank1871 I like Martinez but what credentials does he really have to take over at Liverpool?

They're an upper mid-table side, seems like logical progression for the manager of Wigan.
