Played like West ham?

by Gordons Cumming » 18 May 2012 10:41

Did we achieve the title with the same style of play as West Ham?

Interesting article.....

http://www.sportinglife.com/football/ne ... er&BID=165

Quote:

The Hammers scored 81 times on their way to 86 points - 12 more goals than champions Reading - but the perception remains of Allardyce sending out functional, direct sides focused on achieving set-piece domination.

We did get quite a few set piece goals hence Harte appearing once again in the team of the year.

I think so......

Its my worry next season.......its like finding a corner glitch on Football Manager, only for SI to patch it for the next update

Don't give a sh*t on this one we are promoted as champions.

Heartache for West Ham on Saturday when Holloway's Blackpool deliver the final blow.

Prefer to look at it as "West ham failed to achieve the title with the same style of play as Reading" if atall...

Will this style of play work in the Premiership?

Stoke's progress says "Yes"

I think there is a tactical difference, can't recall West Ham using their wingers as much as us. Although I didn't see every game of theirs tbf

Corner to 6 yard box and CB to attack near post. Effective.

Absolutely.

There are huge differences.

West Ham:
one-paced lumbering midfield
many central midfielders, no wingers
ten thousand strikers, sometimes played out of position
"unbalanced" team
lacking tactical discipline, lacking teamwork when the going gets tough, bunch of bigtime charlies thinking they will walk it

Main tactical move: lump the ball straight forward, through the middle of the pitch, up at a striker

RFC:
two holding midfielders/ballwinners
two fast wingers
balanced team
strong tactical discipline, cynical, hardworking team effort

Main tactical move: win ball in central midfield, angle ball towards wide player who rushes up the pitch with the ball

I'd say the two approaches are nothing alike.

Agree with you mate.
We're loads better to watch than wet spam.
Players like kebe and macanuff are classy players, we all expect when they get the ball.
Wet spams problem is nolan. Too lazy to be a proper center mid, meaning they have to play 4-5-1. but like you said, that's 5 central midfield players, no wingers, gash!

1 defeat in 18 games for West Ham. Not bad for a dysfunctional team.
