Victor Meldrew Incidentally I didn't like the remarks of our own Jason Roberts when it was announced that Ferdinand had been left out of the squad and with the other nonsense that he spoke about on 606 about there not being enough black managers in English football-he is in danger of seeing himself as a kind of black power spokesman when in fact he should be looking for equality which is something that most of us want in our society.

This bit speaks volumes about your views on the matter.

Good-glad you understand my view that what we want in our society is equality and not superiority regardless of race.

Hoop Blah
No Fixed Abode IMO though - it's a tough one for the Chelsea managerial role. I can't see how they can't give the job to Di Matteo IF Chelsea win tomorrow night. Morally it would be the right thing to do.

Well that'll happen then!!

I can see them not giving him the job. It seems pretty clear they wanted to move forward as a team/club and that's why AVB got the job in the first place. 'Robbie' seems to be getting results because he's pandering to the ego's of the senior players more. That's fine in the short term but it won't help evolve the squad or get Abromovich the style and entertainment he so obviously craves.

I can see him getting the job though, on the proviso that Pep is coming in after his little break.

I don't think he'll get it either way. If they do win, it'll be reminiscent of the Liverpool 2005 win - a bit of luck ridden at times and a very unlikely chance of repeating the feat in the near future.

Away from that, his league record on a Points per game basis is worse than AVB, 1.6 ppg compared to 1.7 - they were also 3 pts off 4th and 5th when AVB went but finished 5pts off and 6th by the end of the season, so pandering back to the old guard there hasn't improved the league form, it's actually worsened it.

Yes, he won a cup that they would have still been favourites to win given the route to the final they had (hindsight is a wonderful thing there obviously).

So overall, he's done an OK job keeping the seat warm but being the right man to get them back in the top 4 next year - which will be the bare minimum expected, I don't see it. Best move for him would be a return to WBA with an enhanced reputation.

They reached the final two years later.

Inference in today's press that AVB is the front runner.

LOLz, if you want equality you'll surely be backing Roberts' call for more black managers

But shirley this should be based on ability. AFAIK, there is only one legal form of discrimination in this country and that is in favour of people with disabilities.

Saying there should be more black managers doesn't mean giving any tosser a job just because he's black. There are plenty of dogshit white managers out there getting employed regularly, so I'm not sure that managers only get employed on quality anyway.

Personally I think its a bit of a non-issue. There have only really been many top quality black players in the last 15 - 20 years. So it's bound to take a little while for that to filter through to coach and management level.

Not to mention the (perhaps only perceived) institutional culture of racism blocking opportunities for any ex-black players who want to coach/manage when they retire

Ian, what planet are you living on? You are going to win the prize for 'the most ridiculously uneducated comment of the year' award. Hands down.
