To be fair, they did a pretty good job of killing football as a form of entertainment this morning. Does that count?

Geoff Shreeves has just told John Terry he won't be allowed to lift Wimbledon trophy if Andy Murray wins it.

Need a wicket with this new ball, otherwise there's no point in John Terry pitching up at Lords this afternoon.

Without doubt, one of the most turgid first 45 minutes of football I have seen. Credit where it is due though; considering the lack of options that RDM had, Chelsea were never going to play an expansive game. Whereas I was impressed with the way Bayern kept their width, they very rarely got behind the full backs. Last night's performance confirmed Ashley Cole as one of the best full backs in the world. And Chelsea really ought to keep Drogba on board. He is so much of a talisman for them that without him, Chelsea do look ordinary and similar to Liverpool without Gerrard.

The only downer from last night was that the CL Final will have distracted attention from West Ham winning the Play Off Final. Why didn't the FA / FL have the PO Final today?

Because York are playing Luton in the Blue Sq playoff final.

Rev Algenon Stickleback H Fair play to chelsea.

They've had a great cup run in the CL, and will fancy their chances in the Europa League next year even more.

They did qualify though.........and the ruling is the holders get to defend the trophy

And didn't UEFA say that in future the team in 4th would not then win a CL spot if a team beneath them in the final league standings won the CL? Although I am much more of a fan of Arsenal than Chelsea, it would be pretty hilarious to see Wenger's face if Arsenal finished 4th ahead of Chelsea (the goal of this season, as far as I can make out) only to see Chelsea 'steal' that fourth place in next season's CL but winning this season's competition outright.

Chelsea's chances of winning the Champions League are similar to that of Wizard bedding Sofia Vergara.

I was intrigued by what appeared to be the bold tactic of sticking 'Plastic' up there just in front of (C)Ashley - was this cooked up to combat Robben who was always likely to be Bayern's major threat. Actually think the ex-Royal did OK on the big stage - gave a few fouls away but most of them were being committed well up the park.

Seem to take them an age to work out that Bosingwa was there for the taking on the other flank and switch Arjen and 'their Frank' over. By then 'by hook or by crook' even Bosingwa had entered into the 'you shall not get past' mode and was doing his utmost to keep them out - looked as if Robben had switched back again - once Bertrand went off.

Actually thought Ribery was 'pants' for most of the game and Chelski's double-up-on-Robben tactic seemed to have worked for the most part.

With their 'makeshift' back line, I always thought they (Chelsea) would be their own major threat and indeed Luiz, Bosingwa, Kalou (and even Cole a couple of times) very nearly gave the game away on several occasions, first half. Cahill was an absolute rock throughout though - so a big well-done for the medical staff. Maybe Luiz wasn't as expansive and hence as haphazard, as usual BECAUSE of his injury?

Fortunately for them J-O-M had the best game in a blue shirt I think I've seen - hardly put a foot wrong and wasn't flying in all over the place as he has been known to. Lamps was also a model of a determined defensive screen - didn't seem to be all that mobile - as ever - yet kept appearing where needed at the right time.
Cole was also fairly awesome defensively as was Cahill - even with his twanging hamstrings.

... of course all this, coupled with Munich being in outrageously swishing "Banjo vs Cows Arse mode" for most of the game, made for a compelling final.

Also thought Cech looked a bit 'floppy' for their goal - albeit the goal was a classic header down into the ground which is the keepers' worst nightmare. Maybe taking Muller off right then could have been their downfall as no-one else looked remotely threatening in ET - notwithstanding the pen. My eldest lad pointed out that Cech would possibly know where Robben usually put his penalties. ... and of course the Man in White was exceptional for the shoot-out.

.... and in spite of the usual Torres-bashing that goes on, on TalkScouse every Sunday AM - I thought Fernando looked really aggressive with the ball when he came on and had Munich on the back-foot for quite a spell near the end and in ET. Definitely contributed to their almost visible evaporation of confidence as the game wound down. Didn't look as if Chelsea had any legs left to carry the game back to them and win before pens though.

Oh and presumably the FA would have had to swap the CONF Play-Off over with the Championship one to avoid the clash - not sure why that wasn't an option though?

Don't spose anyone spared a moments' thought that Chelsea would even get to Munich? :?
