Reading4eva Its to my understanding that when Hammond sold Gylfi to Hoffenheim that there was a 50% release clause put in place. Now Swansea could put in a bid of £10Million and Reading £6Million, and our £6Million is worth more to Hoffenheim, than Swansea's £10Million. This if it is true and I'm certain it is, would be a major coop and some great work by Sir Nicky Hammond

There is a clause but it wont be anything as substantial as that.

blueroyals The club will not spend money it doesn't have. Do we have £8m to spend on Gylfi? Judging by the last time we were in the Prem under Madejski, no. If the PL got their asses in gear and approved the takeover then we could probably afford £8m. If we were genuinely interested in signing him we would have heard something by now, rumours or anything.

I'm not sure this is strictly true, when in the premiership before the board seemed happy to spend where there was value for money with Cahill, Brown and Mensah coming to mind but they all opted for other clubs (i don't think purely down to wages either).

Whether the financal meLOLtdown has changed that remains to be seen.

Liverpool have now entered the race for his signature. Gylfi is very eager for the move.

I wonder if it's Liverpool's manager or Director of Football that wants to sign him.

Ideal That's gonna work out great for him, the narrowest team in the top division with no wingers, full of central midfielders, they already have Downing, Adam, Gerrard and Lucas, obviously they're never gonna drop Gerrard, and downing cost £20M, so where the fkk do they intend to use him..
From what I remember he prefers to play centrally, not out wide.

Agreed - Liverpool could be a career damaging move for him. He would be better off staying at Swansea.

He would be a great fit at Arsenal or Man U. Really cannot understand why they are not fighting over him.

Downing's a winger. Gerrard is getting on and missed half this season. Adam and Lucas aren't attacking midfielders to my knowledge. They could use him in the hole behind Carroll and he'll be Gerrard's long term replacement.

Could he do better? Almost certainly... but he could be part of bringing Liverpool back to the top and that must be sorely tempting. Certainly compared to Swansea or us.

Just because that is how they have played doesn't mean they are going to play that way under a new manager, esp. if they do go for someone like Martinez or Rodgers so play the kind of football that suits him.

If he goes to Liverpool how he will be used will come down to who the new manager is. That club is in turmoil tho so no matter who the new coach is and will take a year or two minimum to get it sorted. If he wants to move to that part of England he'd be better off moving to a different part of the Merseyside. I really see him going to Man Utd tho. Ferguson has always been very keen on bringing in good young talent which don't cost as much, relatively speaking, and developing the players. Fergie has had his eye on him and there is a gaping hole in Utd's midfield that needs addressing. Bottom line is, sadly, we are not getting him back.

If Kagawa, Hazard and Tiote/Belhanda/Similar sign for United I can't really see a place in the midfield for him. Not with Fletcher, Carrick etc already there and Rooney playing just behind Welbeck, where Sigurdsson may want to play...

Swansea seem to be the only team with a real interest at this stage

FFS!!! He's better for us than any of these other names touted around on this board.

If Swansea have offered £4.5million or whatever it was, we should offer £5.75million and see what happens. That would, possibly, bring out some of the big guns to start bidding and we'll know if we're completely priced out - but at least we'd have showed an interest.

Seriously? Why would any professional footballer be interested in trying to turn around one of the two biggest, most successful clubs in the country and be a part of returning them to their former glory? A club that even at its most mediocre would still be pushing for European football most seasons. For big money?

Christ, put like that it's obvious no one in their right mind would be interested!

Tokyo Sex Whale I think artificially inflating the price of a player with an extra £1.25m prior to us finalising the TSI deal is a great idea.

It's not artificially inflating the price - Hoffenheim want £8.2million - Swansea offered half that and were derided. So we offer a bit more and see what happens. (Possibly a bidding war as I suggested). Sorry that you look a bit stupid now, just because you were eager to have a go at me.
