Simon's Church Good signing.

Swansea showing their intent, probably more than we'll spend all summer.

It's the Reading way

winchester_royal A shame, but we were never going to try and bring him back. McDermott knows what we need, and I don't think a player like Gylfi would be right for us next season. Nor do I think we will be right for him.

You're right but we still don't have a plan B. If team's figure us out and double up on our wingers we don't have much hope of scoring. We still need more creativity down the middle. If we signed a striker, a defender and a creative/flair-type midfielder I think we'd be set for next season. The following season (if we stay up) is where the real strengthening is needed.

I am not gutted so
Ugh as not getting him, rather that Swansea are. He will not be know as Gylfi from Reading, but rather Gylfi from Swansea, that BR found from Hoffenheim.

Fck Swansea

So, 9 million euros is, roughly £6 million. Gr8. Well done. How much did Hoffenheim pay us for him? :|

I'm gutted. If Swansea can afford £6million, so the bloody hell should we be able, if we're wanting to stay in the Prem, whoever owns us.

OK £7.5 million then - we wouldn't have paid ALL of that, due to the sell-on clause anyway.....

Unless we sold him for £7.5m and the sell on-clause is only on profit.

I am SHOCKED that no top 6 team has decided to buy Gylfi. Shocked.

Spurs could sell Modric for £30m and buy Gylfi for £7.5. Manchester United could give Gylfi one season to learn from Scholes, Arsenal are crying out for a player to feed RVP through the middle like Silva does for Man City, Liverpool simply need class, Chelsea are considering spending £30+ million on Lucas - an unproven attacking midfielder. IT JUST DOESN"T MAKE SENSE that a player, who has PROVEN his ability as Hoffenheim young player of the season and as Swansea's stand out player in a team that played top 6 style football, would be ignored.

He has a great attitude, he is at the perfect age and would be on lowish wages. I am lost for words.

Am I gutted? Yes! Not because we haven't signed him, he's out our league, but that Swansea will be the team that takes advantage - we lost by the width of a post to them 2 seasons ago and now look at them

I can only take solace in the fact that just because an article is written in another language it doesn't make it true!

I have to say that if this is true and Swansea pay 7.5M you have to hand it to them - about treble our record amount spent. Also they will be getting a world class player at what in 2012 player transfer fees is a knock down bargain basement price and I am sure that in time they will in time recoup a huge sell on fee.

It does make you wonder about the ambitions of the respective clubs if we are not even making an effort to sign him back. If we lost out to Arsenal or Man U then fair play – but if Swansea show this much ambition compared to RFC it does make you wonder.

In any case IMO it defies belief that one of the big clubs are not prepared to take a risk on Gylfi. I guess they probably assume that he must be carp as he was developed at Reading.

It's a fraction under £7m given current exchange rates (a good time to be paying in Euros).... so does no profit = nowt for RFC? (assuming any sell on clause is based on profit??)

I'm surprised that other Premier League clubs aren't interested at that price though. Kind of hoping for a Tommy Smith on this still

I'm sure we could afford it if we really wanted to but BM is too sensible to commit potentially 50% of his transfer budget on a position he doesn't see as priority.

Maybe.

But I too am very surprised that a Top6-er hasn't come in for him yet. Young, great temperament, great engine, good passer, great shot, decent at free-kicks etc. etc. - he's still learning the game but, even if he's not as good as some make out just yet, he's surely shown enough to suggest he's destined for a top team. Strange one.

Brilliant.

Same old f/cking tragic Reading in the transfer market. A billionaire investor on the horizon and Gylfi signs for f/cking Swansea while we mooch around scraping free transfers off the dressing room floor and quibling over paultry fees for league 1 nobodies.

Maybe we could ask Brendan if there are any players he doesn't want. Can't beg for scraps off QPR anymore.

Swansea play a system that suits Gylfi, so he'll slot into their team quite nicely.

If we brought him in, we'd have to significantly invest in players to bring out the best in him. I may be wrong, but spending £20m in one summer isn't really the 'Reading way'.

The club will have a list of targets that they believe will help enhance this current squad, with our current system. They're not going to blow a massive chunk of their budget on a player who just wouldn't fit in.

Perhaps a few of you would be wise to consider the opinion of myself (and also held by RL), that this takeover is not what it seems.
I have basicly tried to point out the following:
-perhaps there is no money?
-why is the takeover taking so long, might it be that there is a problem?
-if they need an extra year to come up with £12M for JM, how can they possibly pay for transfers - or even a stadium expansion?
-could it be they do not really have any money, and the takeover is about to collapse?
-if they do have all this money, why are we not paying any money for transfers?

In raising these concerns I have only been met with ridicule from the likes of Ian Royal, but the longer these things go on the more apparent it becomes that all is not well with this takeover, and I belive JM should have pulled the plug on it a long time ago.

BILLIONAIRE BENEFACTORS OR BROKE ASS WANNABES?

Seriously, cannot you not just keep this shit to the TSI thread?
This is about how much we love Gylfi. And the answer is: LOADS AND LOADS AND LOADS.
