Passing has got to start with the centre halves and the central midfielders: Rodgers has get to get rid of Carragher and Gerrard as painlessly as possible to effect this.

Skrtel, Adam, Agger and Lucas are a decent start.

If Lucas is fit Rodgers has a chance

True, if Lucas had been fit I think Kenny would still have a job. Fine margins.

[quote="Hoop Blah"]But Sousa didn't have him did he? Why because he, like Martinez, didn't solve their goal scoring problems with either his signings or getting more goals from the likes of Dobbie or Pratley.

The capture of Borini was also crucial over the closing months of the season. To pin it on Sinclairs goals is over simplifying what Rodgers achieved in my eyes.[/quote

I'm not saying it was all on Sinclair, but Rodgers had that type of explosive talent that neither Martinez nor Sousa had at their disposal. Martinez did have Jason Scotland and who looked great in his one season at Championship level with Swansea, and like Long's departure, Sousa really struggled to replace him.

Exactly, Sousa failed to replace him.

Rodgers did replace him, and got more goals out of the rest. That is good management and why he got them up when the previous two didn't.

It wasn't just a case of keeping their work ticking over, he actually addressed the weaknesses in the squad and made them a better side. He doesn't get enough credit for that.

I agree he hasn't got enough credit but at the same time he had resources that the other two didn't. Sinclair was one of them as was the fact that players had 2 years of experience at Championship level playing a Rodgers type style. I think he's a good manager but my point is more that if you'd given Sousa or Martinez that squad then I'd have backed them to get into the top 6.

Interesting to think now where he'd be if Earnshaw or Karacan's shots go the other side of the post in their play-off run....

But he put the iceing on that squad. They didn't. That's where he made the difference and showed his good management, whereas they didn't.

From what I can tell Rodgers didn't have significant extra cash to bring in players, but getting Sinclair for £500k was a great bit of business. The season before Sousa brought in Dyer, Dobbie (but didn't really play him), Lopez, Beattie, Cotterill and Kuqi. He had the funds to do what Rodgers did but didn't. Martinez might not've had quite the same resources but he did have the chance to build the team and momentum in the division below, ala Lambert, Poyet and Atkins.

Wimb Interesting to think now where he'd be if Earnshaw or Karacan's shots go the other side of the post in their play-off run....

Agreed. Same with Dalglish or Fergie (if Roland Neilson had been watching and heading the ball off the line for Steve Bruce's crucial late winner the last 20 years could've been totally different) or most other managers with pivotal moments going their way (or not) during a career.

Not to sidetrack the discussion, but I've often wondered how different the England team's fortunes might have subsequently been had Gascoigne got a toe-end on that cross in the Euro 96 semi final.

We'd have lost the final on penalties.

So, the Scouser is walking along Ainsdale Beach and comes across a strange bottle; he rubs it on his replica Liverpool FC shirt and out pops the obligatory genie. the following dialogue ensues:

Genie: Oh Master, thou hast saved me form a two thousand years of slavery and I must now reward you.
Scouser: Great, dah!
Genie: I must now consult my genie book of rules for 2012 and see what I must do. (flicks through tome.) Ah yes, you are granted one wish, which cannot carry monetary value, but must be something that enhances your spiritual wellbeing. You must offer me two choices, one of which I am bound to bring about.
Scouser: Orright, mate. Well, I live in Maghull but werk in Birkenhead. Me missus is always complainin' i'm 'one late so 'owe about you build me a bridge from my 'ouse straight to the shipyard. Two lanes, so that i can cycle on the right side goin' there and back.
Genie: Oh master, that is indeed too onerous a task. the civil engineering is difficult enough, but have you thought about getting through the Liverpool Corporation and Birkenhead Planning committees- the legal fees alone…..(genie swoons). What is your second option.
Scouser: Orright, mate. What about Liverpool FC makin' Champions League places next season?
Genie: With Brenda in charge (pauses). So, would you need lights on the bridge?

It was sent to me by a Scouser - so therefore it must be funny... although I'm in your camp.
