They're deluded if they think he's worth £4m with only a year left on his contract.

Apparently he's due to play another international next Friday. If that's the case we'll probably have to wait until the following week to tie this up.

Jamaica are playing in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying. They play Guatemala on the 8th June then they play Antigua and Barbuda on the 12th June. If Marriapa plays in both games it looks like the signing will be hanging around for quite some time.

Kevin Affleck ‏@affers1178
#readingfc walked away from deal for Adrian Mariappa. Second improved bid, of nearly £2m incl add ons, was rejected by #watfordfc.

Seems weird that Watford would keep releasing these stories 3 weeks after we agreed a fee :?

Kevin Affleck doesn't have the most reliable of reputations.

Kevin Affleck used to be the sports editor at the Watford Observer and more often than not knows his stuff concerning the Horns..... he has, though, been the sports editor on The National in Abu Dhabi for quite some time..... He's also a big Watford fan and could be letting his personal prejudice cloud his professional outliook - a bit like a couple of other hacks I could name.

Indeed. He's also only feeding others what the club tell him, which as mentioned is purely to appease the Watford fans. It's quite a jump though to say we've now walked away. That sounds like his only additional spin, which is not the case at all.

Do you know if any other club has come in for him? It seems we have to wait a long time before Adrian signs on the dotted line because of the international break!

No. Only that a fee was agreed weeks ago, both parties are happy and the player expressed an interest in coming here. He's on International duty for another week or so and then we expect the medical to go ahead. Terms apparently agreed in principle.

Newcastle were interested in January but didn't move. Wigan had a bid accepted in January but couldn't agree terms. No idea if either have come in this time.

I know I keep saying this but I would be very happy with this signing! Excellent player and has the ability to start ahead of Gorkss! He would provide Pearce and Harte with that small bit of pace which would help us quite considerably next season. FL any news about Gunter or another LB?

Nothing on a left back.

We're supposed to be going back to Forest with an improved offer for Gunter.

A Welsh supporter on Twiiter told me that Gunter is not worth £2million led alone whatever bid Reading are going to put in next..He had a very goo season with Forest last season..I guess £2.5million would be enough?

Hope we do, he is definatly worth 3-3.5m IMO. Best full back outside the Prem, gets tight, got some pace, and has a dirty streak in him

Not wishing to seem too picky but we are in the Prem. Sounds good doesn't it!

I keep seeing Forest and Watford fans saying "£2.5m for Gunter/Mariappa, you've got to be joking, if Matt Mills cost £5million then Gunter/Mariappa is worth at least that"

Lol and the price Leicester pay/the price Hammond does business at being the benchmark for how much players should be worth. Time has shown that we paid the right price for Mills at £1million and not Leicester at £5million

Isn't marriapa coming to the end of his contract, hence the price?, and also Mills was at the start of his? And captain of his team that had just reached the playoff final and probably had the best season of his career? I don't think the 5 million apparently paid is that inflated

I thought Mills was in the last year of his contract? He signed a 3 year contract when he bought him in 2009 and I don't remember him signing another one before we sold him.
