Franchise FC
Friday's Legacy Lambert confirmed as Villa manager.

So that's Rodgers, Lambert and Warnock from last year.

We'd better improve McD's contract and quick.

On the other hand, he could be on the end of a 'contract' is he crosses the Zingers

We're in a better position than Norwich to keep our manager because we now have the money to allow progression year-by-year.

Norwich are only going one way from last season, and Lambert knew it.

If I was a Birmingham City fan, I'd certainly be resigned to losing Hughton this Summer; he has to be in the frame for the West Brom job.

The thing with Brian though, is that none of the teams that need managers offer something substantially more than Reading can in terms of size, potential etc; Villa did, and that was one club I thought COULD have convinced him to move, but luckily Randy Lerner seems to think that because Man Utd have a Jock Manager, he has to have a Jock Manager as well in order to be succesful! :D

That should at least keep Jason Roberts quiet for a few days (spouting off again in today's paper about how black managers don't get a chance at management, that Rio should be picked blah, blah).

Would be a strange move, had he even done any coaching before?

Might put a bet on Zola at 25/1, dunno why.

M-U-R-T-Y Anyone else a tad worried that Brian's head may be turned by a bigger club if we do well in our first season back?

That's twice in one week now.

Nope.

Now that TSI are on board and we are in the prem there are less than 10 clubs in the country that would represent a step up from Reading.

Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton, Newcastle and LOLerpool - that's your lot.

^ LOL

no way

I'll qualify that

with TSI we've done nothing, they've spent nothing and the whole project is unproven

we're still the same small club we always have been

In which case I had a great dream about them providing funds to purchase Jason Roberts and us winning the league.

Face it - it's time to leave the small club mentality behind.

kind of arrogant fan that these takeovers bring I guess. sadly these kind of lolzworthy comments are what will tarnish the reputation of the club

Yeah, his attitude as well as the Terry feud is exactly what the squad needs right now.

Terry's a better defender. He's innocent until proven guilty, so if you can only take one then it should be him.

What's more, I'd hardly call not being taken to the Euros a 'punishment'.

Ferguson said Rio won't manage a game every few days. Hodgson said he wasn't picked for footballing reasons. Seems pretty simple to me.

So go on then, which other clubs would represent a step up for Brian?

Stoke? Wigan? Swansea? Norwich? QPR?

I suppose it may be possible to make a case for Villa and Sunderland. But seriously, who else?

But we've called up a player who won't play any games at all, unless we really get hit by injuries....

At least Rio could have played some part, unlike Kelly - how come Smalling never got a look in either?

Anyway, he should have called up a midfielder as he has Terry, Lescott, Jagelka, Jones all able to play centre half.

Smalling is another one who's injured and I'm guessing the way Hodgson sees it is that, firstly, he'd ruled Rio out for whatever 'footballing reasons' and so was sticking by them, and secondly, Kelly is very much one for the future and so having him along is of greater long term benefit.

He could've called up a midfielder, but who's left to pick? He could've taken another winger (Johnson I guess) but then the squad would've lacked balance even more.
