Joey Barton

Or maybe just given Scholes a buzz, could do a job and would be great for the youngsters to learn from him

cmonurz Ferguson said Rio won't manage a game every few days. Hodgson said he wasn't picked for footballing reasons. Seems pretty simple to me.

But we've called up a player who won't play any games at all, unless we really get hit by injuries....

At least Rio could have played some part, unlike Kelly - how come Smalling never got a look in either?

Anyway, he should have called up a midfielder as he has Terry, Lescott, Jagelka, Jones all able to play centre half.

Whoever is called up at this stage won't play a game bar a major injury crisis, Rio would come in as 5th choice CB or 4th at best if you Jones is just RB cover. Given that Kelly makes sense over Rio as he'll get experience of a major tournament.

We went down that route last time around didn't we? He didn't want to know for the World Cup so I doubt he'd want to come back for this, especially if he isn't likely to play.

Next available English midfielders would, by my thinking, possibly be Danny Murphy or Keiran Richardson!

I actually think taking a few of the younger players to give them experience is a good thing, it's just a shame that so many seem happy to rule themselves out of playing for their country.

I bet Carrick is really kicking himself for ruling himself out now, though

edit: Daniel Sturridge....can play wing or up top

Sturridge or Johnson would've been the other way of doing it (and I'd probably had have both in my 23 as it happens), but I do think he'd have left him self a bit light of defensive players.

After one day in the job!!!

Bit dramatic, why didn't he just resign if he thought he had made a mistake?

Good move I think. Highly regarded coach. I'm pretty sure he would have done a better job at Liverpool than Kenny, given total charge.

Yeah, good defensive coach. Right kind of appointment to carry on what Hodgson started.

No Fixed Abode Highly regarded coach.

Just because he was at Chelsea doesn't mean he is highly respected!

Almost relegated West Ham, coached Liverpool to their worst league season in a lifetime, managed Newcastle for 1 game and conceded 5 goals. The only thing of note he did was coach Chelsea when they broke all sorts of transfer records
