soggy biscuit
Dickie Davies Liverpool will not sanction 10 fat ones on yet another centre midfielder:

• Steven Gerrard
• Maxi Rodriguez
• Jordan Henderson
• Jay Spearing
• Lucas Leiva
• Charlie Adam
• Raheem Sterling
• Jonjo Shelvey

Buckey Mcluckypants will need to ofload before bolstering.

Joe Cole & Alberto Aquilani have both been told they have to report to pre season training with Liverpool this summer

Good shout.

The homecoming is a real possibility.

He's in the Mail today, but doesn't say much really - feels he won't go to Swansea and has sent Rodgers a text since he got the Liverpool job.

He's coming home
He's coming home
He's coming
Gylfi's coming home
etc

FWIW I see this as 50/50 between us and Liverpool.

If he comes here he's got a great chance of playing most games - not the case at Liverpool, especially considering their vast numbers in midfield already. And anyway, with a huge wage bill already associated with a pretty incompetent bunch of misfit midfielders I can't see Liverpool sanctioning anything other than a small punt on someone until they've sold several of that bunch. That's going to take a while and in the meantime an offer is on the table from Reading...

I could still see one of the Top 4 steaming in though.

Edit: which I guess just agrees with sentiments of last few posts...

Not sure why Maxi and Sterling are included in that list though, both are very much wingers and not central players.

Cole would be a like for like kind of player for Sigurdsson though, but I think it would look a good fit for Sigurdsson to end up there. Long term he could do very well for Liverpool and it's the kind of club he needs to be aiming for.

I obviously still hope he decides to come here, but at least we've had a go at getting him. It would've been criminal not to as far as I'm concerned. Can't really argue with him going to Anfield if that's where he ends up though.

winchester_royal I'd be amazed if we're paying anyone >20k

I'll also be amazed if, by the end of the window, we aren't paying someone >30k

After promotion I heard we're already into the £35k+ range.

I can't imagine there's more than one or two on that kind of money, even after going up, but I agree that that's where we're going to the heading. I think many still seem to think we top out at £25k.

Yes they will as Gylfi is better than all those players, bar about 2....Rodgers is manager, he wants Sig and will quite happily let those players rot/be sold to have "his" team

I doubt he'll be allowed to just let them rot and sign Gylfi.

He has to sell and quick, but that won't be easy; meanwhile we have no obstacles at all and an offer that has been accepted it appears.

I thought i read something last week about Rodgers sending some Liverpool players (maybe youngsters) to Swansea on loan.

Both Sterling and Shelvey would fit that description, and into Swansea's style of play. I'm sure Adam would interest quite a few if they were looking to sell.

I'd be very surprised if Liverpool sat back and watched Gylfi go elsewhere. Newcastle were certainly interested in him towards the end of the season - perhaps they're the club to have made an offer?

But he wouldn't have to sell before he could buy....

He could loan out half of that list and they'd be happy

Take me with you! Sigurdsson sets sights on joining Rodgers at Liverpool after snubbing Swansea deal

Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson admits he would be interested in a move to Liverpool to be reunited with former manager Brendan Rodgers after claiming his record-breaking move to Swansea is off.
Last week the Swans agreed a £6.8million transfer - almost doubling their record fee - to sign the player from Hoffenheim permanently after his successful four-month loan spell subject to a medical.

However, Rodgers' departure to Anfield cast doubt on the deal and Sigurdsson now does not think he will complete it - despite being keen to remain in the Premier League.
'It's just unclear at this moment where I will play,' he told mbl.is in his homeland.
'I'd like to play on with Swansea since I was really happy there but after Brendan Rodgers left the club for Liverpool, that changed the situation.
'I expect not to stay at Swansea because of the uncertainty going on there as it is not clear who is boss.
'I have said that my desire to continue playing in the Premier League and Liverpool is completely considered.
'Liverpool is a big club that has a glorious history.
'English Premier League is the platform that I want to be and hopefully is that I continue to play in that division.'
New man: Brendan Rodgers is getting down to work with Liverpool
Sigurdsson has been in touch with Rodgers - a manager he rates highly - since he was installed as Kenny Dalglish's successor, which raises the prospect of him ending up at Anfield.
'I got in touch with Brendan when he was appointed Liverpool manager,' he added.
'I wish him congratulations and thanked him for a great time at Swansea.'

I'm not going to do the research but the length of contract remaining will be a factor - they won't want to be paying Cole £130k per week and just let it run down whilst only a percentage is being paid by the loanee club and get nothing at the end of it.

Still, if anyone on that list is a Rodgers type of player I'd have thought Joe Cole is the man. I hope he goes back to Anfield and does well.

Im sure they can loan the other players out with the club, he goes to, paying close to 100% of their wages

Plus most clubs these days pay a "loan fee" which will help cover wages

Is anyone else really enjoying all the Swansea fans moaning about how they made him and how he'd still be on the bench at Hoffenheim without them?

Err, wrong!

If we get Charlie Adam as compensation for not getting Gylfi i'll be happy. Would still prefer Sig but fantastic compensation for not getting the lad!

Saying that... won't happen. I'd be tempted to say Charlie Adam may well be in Brendan Rodgers' plans more than someone like Steven Gerrard - very good player and more importantly footballer. Would fit with the Rodgers way well i reckon

Charlie Adam is good at long balls and Rodgers likes short passes - I expect Adam to be surplus to requirements. Perhaps foolishly I wouldn't want him though, not a 'Reading signing'.
