Isn't marriapa coming to the end of his contract, hence the price?, and also Mills was at the start of his? And captain of his team that had just reached the playoff final and probably had the best season of his career? I don't think the 5 million apparently paid is that inflated

I thought Mills was in the last year of his contract? He signed a 3 year contract when he bought him in 2009 and I don't remember him signing another one before we sold him.

I think the following statement could hide the actual truth: 'It is unclear whether recently-promoted Reading, whose first-team coach Nigel Gibbs will know Mariappa from his time at Watford, will come back in for the centre-back. ' - i.e. they can always say that we rejected it, but Reading came back with an improved offer and we couldn't say no.

I got told this last Saturday that the bid had been rejected. Didn't want to say anything as I thought people would belittle me because of what FL has got right. Also got told we wouldn't pay any more for Gunter than what we have offered, but the offer is still on the table.

Looks like nothing will happen in regards to marriappa until he comes back from international duty so hold your horses. I will try and get more out of my source tomorrow when I see him

They do seem to be stringing this line out a bit. It's possible of course that they may have upped their valuation late on, but we've been in advanced talks with the player (all verbal only), so it would seem odd for a last minute change of heart. I'm still being told that the fee is agreed and the leaks to the press are in agreement with Reading, and are simply to let the Watford fans down gently when the player is eventually sold. I guess we'll know soon enough. He must be back from International duty next week? Then there should be a conclusion to this.

We've submitted the same bid that was rejected by Watford before. Watford were trying to start a bidding war by leaking our bid, but they have serious money issues at the moment and if no one else comes in for him then they will probably have to accept our bid.
