Friday's Legacy Rhodes future will be decided next week - http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/ ... witterfeed

Huddersfield assistant manager Glynn Snodin has revealed Jordan Rhodes’ future will be resolved in the next few days.

The highly-rated 22-year-old striker has hit 40 goals this season attracting the attention of a host of Premier League sides including West Ham, Tottenham, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Fulham.

Bosses at the club have reportedly slapped an £8m price tag on Rhodes in an attempt to fend off potential suitors.

But after helping the Terriers gain promotion from League One to the Championship on Saturday afternoon, Snodin told talkSPORT that if Rhodes does decide to leave he will go with the club’s best wishes.

“He has been fantastic. Hopefully over the next three, four or five days things should be getting sorted out with Jordan, his agent, the chairman and see where we go with that then.

“It will be down to the club what Jordan is looking for and what Jordan Rhodes wants to do as well.

“Whatever happens, if he is going to stay, fantastic, if he is going to leave then everybody is going to pat him on the back because what he has done for this club has been absolutely out of this world.”

£8 million - hahahahahahaha, no chance

whatever price you see in a newspaper , minus 33% , journalists are bullshitting cocksuckers

Ups and Downs I would extremely surprised if anyone pays anywhere near the £5million mark for him.

Apparently Saints have had a £7m bid for Jay Rodriguez (of Burnley) accepted - Rodriguez is a similar age to Rhodes but he's proven at Champ level. £4-5m plus bonuses would probs be reasonable for Rhodes

They are now saying no fee has been agreed.......

Reading4eva Why don't we strike a deal with Huddersfield. To start with I like the look of Morrison and believe he should start with us. Carling Cup, off the bench kind of player see if he can cut it. But I want to see Rhodes here too. How about a £5million signing then we loan him straight back to Huddersfield to get that Championship experience before coming here in Janurary. We keep Morrison and loan him back in Janurary if he doesn't do much. Everyone's a winner, Rhodes gets Huddersfield enough points to stay up, makes the jump more bearable, Morrison gets his chance and if he doesn't cut it gets to go back to Huddersfield who obviously love him, and can leave next summer.

By the way I can see Huddersfield doing a Southampton and Norwich, so it makes sense for all involved.

I don't see an awful lot in it for Huddersfield tbh.

Would you have happily sold Gylfi to Chelsea for £6m to get Bertrand on loan for one extra year?

Personally I see Morrison's situation as similar to Antonio's. Impressed at a lower level. Not been considered good enough to start regularly at Championship level and we've now been promoted above that. Both would be good to try moving into the team to fill gaps if we hadn't got promoted. Now both only really worth keeping in case we get relegated.

In which case, I say let all parties move on to pastures new, permanently.

The biggest part for Huddersfield would be, that if he came to us, then they'd get him back till January straight away, and then Rhodes could bridge that gap, and earn them enough points to keep them in the Championship. There surely must be a £3 Million difference between Championship football for the following season and an instant return to League One. That way Huddersfield can invest the £5 Million how they like. And should Morrison not cut it in the Premier League, then they could have him from Janurary, with a view to buy in the summer (should we stay up)

If we buy Rhodes, it'll be because we think he's good enough to have an impact for us. No way we'd just loan him straight back. It'd be madness to pay millions for a player and then shuffle him off for 6 months.

Just because Huddersfield have said they value him at £8 Million doesn't mean he'll go for that. Long was valued at £20 Million by SJM this time last year remember...

+1 Good point. Rhodes has been linked with us for ages now, if he's got it in his head that he wants to play for us, then Huddersfield will find it very hard to keep hold of him. There's no point in imprisoning a jaded striker.

I would have preferred Championship proven Rodriguez instead rather than Rhodes making the 2 division jump to the PL. But we still need help in the more forward positions and hopefully a player or two with PL experience. I have my doubts we'll be getting Defoe or Cole (hope to be proven wrong btw) so I guess I am pinning my hopes on a League 1 striker to be one of the club's main attacking options in the PL next year.

Few quotes from SJM on the radio this morning...

"hope TSI don't go for big names thats not the Reading way"
"We will go for players who are young and hungry with a big future"
"You need ambition to stay in the premier league and Anton has lots of ambition"
"TSI have exciting plans on and off the pitch"

So reiterating a lot we know already, but ambition, exciting plans on the pitch and young players with a big future... would indicate Rhodes would certainly fit the profile. Better £6m on him than pissing away £6m on a 3 year 40k a week deal for Defoe.

Of course, he also said those dreaded words, "status quo", so maybe we will be rocking all over the world for bargains as usual. But if I had to bet on any name in this forum, other than Mariappa who also fits that bill, I would say Rhodes. It'll cost, but I'll quote our former majority owner again, "You can't believe what you read in the press, often these deals aren't as much as has been reported"...

I couldn't agree more.
This thinking actually fits the "reading way" ethos.
We're still developing young, hungry, players and then, probably sell them on to other clubs higher up the food chain at a profit.
Seems to me that the only difference to the previous regime is that the initial investment will be higher, but working at this level, the returns will be so also.
With this line of thinking in mind, a late move for Gylfi would not surprise me, because many are of the opinion that £6-7 Mill for him now may well return a big profit from his sale 1-2 years down the line.

Rather spend 6m on him than 6m on a bunch of random pub players and pensioners, but the price does seem wide of the mark.

A bit harsh to dismiss some of the stellar names mentioned as pensioners, but i agree with the underlying point.
We all saw Joey and Owen work magic for our country, but that was then.
Signing or loaning this kind of player whose star is fading (otherwise they wouldn't even be talked about in the same breath as little old Reading) is something that many clubs have done over the years.
It often works as an impact thing (Roberts), but has problems as a long term strategy.
All the money spent on an Owen (fee and wages) would effectively be written off, as at the other end of the contract, there is little or no resale value. (Ferdinand).

We definitely need to strengthen the forward line, look at West Ham and Southampton and I'd take any of theirs over ours. (Cole, Vaz Te, Lambert, Sharp, Rodriguez).

Strikers aren't often cheap (with Doyle and Long the exceptions), unless we can find another unearthed gem I think Rhodes is a pretty good bet.

If we still have an interest in Jordan Rhodes then this could see Morrison become part of any deal.

Huddersfield Town want to re-sign Reading central defender Sean Morrison for a third spell, either on a loan deal or permanent transfer.

Snodin said "Sean has made it clear he loves it here and would like to play for us in the Championship, and we certainly love him, so we`ll see what happens. In the first instance it`s very much down to what Brian McDermott, the Reading manager, wants to do."

"Does he want to keep Sean for the top-flight campaign, does he want to sell him or is he prepared to loan him out again? Until we know the answer to those questions then we can`t really progress anything, but we know Brian very well, he is a smashing fellow and we know there won`t be any problems, he will just let us know honestly exactly where he stands."

I've heard we're in advanced talks with Rhodes so could be the second striker coming in. We're not messing around this coming season.

Yep, that seems pretty likely...
