We should just add 20% onto whatever fee Liverpool agree and then we'll get him and it shouldn't cost any more.

Sounds like it's in the bag!

Ian Royal
Friday's Legacy Reading's sell-on is not based on profit, and is believed to be between 10% and 20%.

That would be obscene to have sold him for £6m - £7m and also have 10% - 20% of his next transfer fee!! Even by Hammond's highway robbery standards.

Whoever deals with transfer deals at Hoffenheim should be strung up if that's true.

to be fair, he'd be worth twice that if they'd started him every game for the last two years. Hammond was very happy with the deal though

OK someone has to be devil's advocate and in this case it could be me. I am actually the inverse of a Plastic, I had a season ticket for about 10 years from the 1994 play-off until just before the great elevation to the Premiership first time round. I remember 'Pants for Pants Day', thumping Oldham to the cries of 'What a Waste of Petrol!!' and losing 6 goals to Palace at Elm Park or 6 in the second half to Bristol Rovers at the Madstad. Due to a change in circumstances I gave my season ticket up so I have missed the 'Golden Era.'

So my questions to the Reading fans out there are.........

1. Would Gylfi be worth £7M?

2. Can he fit into our present system?

3. Is it not a huge risk to re-shape our team and play new systems just for one player?

Answers on a reply please...........

If only someone had addressed those questions earlier in the thread...

1. Yes
2. Who cares
3. No, Gylfi can win the league single-handed

Maybe my point got lost  but I have not seen him play in the flesh, and having got bogged down in the last 60 pages of excitement, misery, adulation and kitten baiting (or was that another thread? I get confused, it's my age) I am kind of left with a mental picture of a baying and adulatory mob of Reading fans being confronted by Mrs Sig saying, 'He's not the Messiah, just a very gifted footballer!'

He's a good player destined for Liverpool but could play for a top 4 side eventually.

Mr Elm Pasty:

In the current climate of silly money, 7m for Gylfi is an absolute steal. He's shone wherever he's played and the qualities we were lucky to see have shown to be genuine class rather than purple form.

System-wise, we don't even know what our system is going to be next season - so I've never really understood this concern. If we bought him, I'm pretty sure Brian would have a system in mind - I'm guessing this would lean towards a five-man midfield. With Legs and Jem as a solid holding platform and strong wingers we are already prepared for that formation in my eyes and wouldn't need much addition to adapt - though a good argument seems to be whether Roberts can/would want to play on his own, or whether we need to bring in a new striker. I don't see this being a major hurdle.

As for it being a risk to re-shape, personally I think we'll have to do that anyway. New season, new league - I'd be surprised if we approach the Prem like we did the Championship. I wouldn't see this as us reshaping for one player, I'd see this as us reshaping for the league and bringing in the personnel required.

Regarding that post above - i remember Roberts saying he came to Reading as we're a 442 team playing the game how it should be played - two up front.

1) YES!!! Of course he is.

2) Yes. Replace Hunt with Gylfi and have him play a touch deeper.

3) Only if the reshaping is difficult and extensive and we don't know a lot about the player. In this case, neither apply. Arguably we need to reshape anyway as it's a big risk trying to play 4-4-2 without much of the ball in the Premier League.

He is definitely the best player we've had in the all the years I've been watching (started May '95). He's miles better than anyone we've had prior to the 106 brigade in that time. Which means he's probably the best player we've ever had.

We HAVE to be more creative and attacking next season. We will be relegated by March if we continue to sit back and suck up the pressure, in the hope of hitting on the break!

The system must change!

Remember this too. But sadly for him, Reading will be more concerned with what's right for the club rather than what is right for Roberts.

Thanks for the replies, I can now understand what all the fuss is about. The fact that you all report he is such a good player is very exciting, almost exciting as hearing that Michael Meaker was joining..... ... oh hold on. That should have said leaving. :D

Imagine the feeling you used to get watching Paul Gascgoine play for England. Every time he picked up the ball, you got the feeling something was going to happen. Add set piece delivery. Add dead ball on goal strike ability. Add intelligence. Take away inability to control alcohol intake. Add a lot more intelligence. Then you've got a rough recipie for half a Sigurdsson.

He's not as good as Gascoigne was in his prime, but I share the sentiment.

Not as good as Gascoigne, but might become as good as Le Tiss.

Le Tiss is a really good comparison actually IMO. Just a thinner version.
