BM says "I always ask them, do you want to come to Reading, do you want to play for Reading? If there's a doubt, my view on it is not to do that deal."

Why are we still interested in this guy then?

= agent wanting to see if it means he can screw more money for his client out of the new owners rather than go to a new club.

I wouldn't be surprised. The new owners took Granada out of turmoil and carried them from the third tier to the first tier. They heavily bolstered their squad with Udinese loanees too, something that could well happen with Watford. These guys show ambition and I wouldn't be shocked to see the hornets back in the top flight in the near future under their ownership.

Getting promoted from the lower tiers in Spain is far easier than going from the Championship to the Premier League. Investment alone doesn't help one bit, look at Leicester last season, they would do very very well to take Watford any higher than they are now.

Obviously investment alone doesn't do it, but would we have gone up without AZ's investment? I still believe Leicester will be up within a few years, hence me saying 'in the near future', not next season or the season after. There's no doubt that the ability to have better players strengthens your chances of going up, no? Watford already have a decent side, Mariappa and Martin Taylor are no worse than Pearce and Gorkss, Iwelumo is a proven Championship goalscorer, and they have some excellent young players such as Whichelow and Sean Murray. The squad needn't be disrupted but they could bring in a few quality additions (a la Roberts), which would surely boost their chances?

Doyler Just been reported on SSN that we had a £2m bid rejected.

Not true, had a fee agreed for a while - expecting him to move but as he's away at the moment and not a priority for either club its not sorted yet

All signs point to that not being true.

If that's really true (and it could be brinkmanship) then they'll be back to needing the cash.

Note to Squeaky - lower the bid by a million - they'll still take it.

"Yeah sorry Watford-dudes, we're looking at Bassong now so unless you can offer us a good deal, jog on."

(You will notice I have replicated Hammond's turn of phrase perfectly.)
