The noise
That 1 second pause as the ball goes in then hits the roof of the net followed by the noise is bliss.

looking at how inept ireland were (though to be fair they had a touch group) i cant believe long didnt play (the 2 min sub doesnt count). doyle was largely ineffective. i thought long's pace and good hold up play would have been a useful asset

BR2 When did Long suddenly become a "hold-up" player?
IMHO that is his downside-his inability to hold the ball and bring others into play.
He is a strong runner,a fair finisher and quite a good header of the ball but his big downfall is an inability to link play and it looks as though Trapattoni felt the same way and saw more in Cox,Walters,Doyle and Keane than what he felt Shane could offer.
Having signed a genuine "hold-up" player like Roberts I hope that is the way Brian sees us continuing to play in the future rather than the "hit and hope" stuff of the Long era and that Long is now a player from our past rather than our future.

Friday's Legacy I don't think we'll see his return this summer. We did place a bid and it sat there for the new manager in waiting to come in and make a decision, but we are now in talks with two other strikers.
