Not sure how recent this is, can't see a date. Only found this on the mobile sky sports site for some reason. maybe further away than we think.

His agent did indeed say that but things have moved forward and despite some expected nonsense being posted on Twitter, the deal is done. Know this about hacks, they recycle a lot of stories and have publishing times set each day. Obviously things can move quickly within a few hours. So the above story is old news.

GetReading today reporting the deal is almost done, just awaiting a work permit

Hammond has been quoted as saying the rumoured £65k are long way wide of the mark

Around £30k per week plus a generous sign on fee & bonuses. Definitely not the £60k that's been thrown around by the media.

£65k is a joke figure that is being banded about.. Not even Fordham would make that up.. I never thought I would be happy to see him back but his understudy is worse than he is.. If thats the future of journalism then we are all doomed

If you read the press the articles have suggested we have offered a 4 year as opposed to 2 year contract worth double the £30k that Fulham were offering - by my maths that suggests we have offered £30k a week for 4 years. if we had offered 60k for 4 years that would be a contract worth quadruple that of Fulham.......

Either way getting a bit bored with this now and want club to get it sorted asap, still remember the Tommy Smith saga....

The difference between this and the Tommy Smith signing is the club have said nothing this time. I guess that's the main difference between Mcdermott and Rodgers

Spot on and also whilst being prudent with the deal we are not "Cutting the Cloth" to the point where it leaves the door wide open for others.

When this gets announced it will be the best signing for reasons also its been a full team effort from the manager right up to the owner being involved.

Here we go... from GetReading

PAVEL POGREBNYAK is set to be the first of a number of big-name signings to join Reading this summer.

The Russia striker has agreed terms on a four-year deal at Madejski Stadium and is likely to be confirmed as the first player to join the club following Anton Zingarevich’s £25million buyout.

The 28-year-old touched down in England on Tuesday and was met by Royals director of football Nick Hammond at Heathrow before completing a medical at Hogwood Park yesterday.

“Things have progressed well and we are hoping to have an agreement finalised soon,” Hammond told getreading.

“Pavel is a good player and both myself and the manager (Brian McDermott) have had some good discussions with him.

“We are hopeful that we will have the deal finalised soon once he is granted a work permit, which we don’t envisage he will have any problems getting.”

The signing of Pogrebnyak will be a major coup for Royals, who faced competition from Premier League rivals Fulham and Aston Villa.

He bagged six goals in 12 starts for Fulham during a loan spell from VfB Stuttgart, but will be a free agent at the end of the month.

Pogrebnyak is set to receive a substantial signing-on fee along with a weekly wage in the region of £30,000.

The 6ft 2ins powerhouse, who was formerly with Spartak Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg, played the final 18 minutes of Russia’s 1-0 defeat by Greece in the European Championships.

He could soon be joined at Reading by Tottenham Hotspur defender Sebastien Bassong.

The 25-year-old Cameroon international will be allowed to leave managerless Spurs this summer after falling down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

Watford centre-back Adrian Mariappa is also still high on McDermott’s wishlist.

But the Hornets are in the process of being taken over, which is delaying any impending deal.

Hammond declined to reveal the identities of Royals targets but said: “I’ve got a number of discussions ongoing and we are hoping to complete on some other deals soon.”

Something that a lot of the rabid salivators on here would do well to remember.
