John Madejski's Wallet
winchester_royal Ashley Young has been embarassingly bad all tournament. Roy's one blind spot seems to he him. Completely obvious he was going to miss.

Him and Rooney were utter, utter tripe today.

When they did get a break, they always broke down through over-keeping the ball and indecision. Young was dreadfull at keeping the ball while defending

I did my Rooney bashing the other day so decided I would try to refrain tonight.

But you're right. He was fcuking useless again.

One or two decent touches a game for a world class striker - pathetic. And still people will make excuses for him.

Carroll's 1st touch must have been an embarrassment to Rooney.

That bubble burst for many england fans ages ago.

tbf Him, Lescott & Johnson were brilliant.

Coming into this I thought Cole was our one world-class defender, but I think he's been the weakest (probably because Young has been in front of him!). Johnson & Lescott have really impressed

Should have kept one sub back and brought Leighton Baines on for Young, seeing as the latter was shit and we were clearly playing for pens from the 55th minute onwards.

The problem today was that our midfield went totally missing after 30 minutes. Gerrard must have touched the ball twice after half-time, one of them being his excellent penalty, and Parker seemingly just can't last more than 60 minutes before running out of steam. The less said about Walcott, Young and Milner the better. Carroll was fantastic when he came on but he had nobody offering any sort of runs around him.

This team will be much better when we can get the likes of Wilshere, Rodwell, Ox and Johnson in there.

I do like his rants (the one after South Africa was excellent) but generally I find him a little repetitive.

Has he ranted tonight?

Have to agree about Terry much as I hate the man. Gerrard & Johnson also quite good I thought.

Carroll & Welbeck looked promising together. Why does every manager bow to the Rooney pressure? He should have had to earn his way back not start straight away.

John Madejski's Wallet
No Fixed Abode Pirlo - class act, domin8ed our non existent midfield.

Really?
I think we were happy to let him.

Italy missed what.... 3 decent chances? maybe 4? For all the possession we let them have.

I was fairly happy with half that team play.
Getting a decent striker and a decent forward (GET RID OF F*CKING ROONEY) would have helped. Radio slaggin off our 442 mentality. Aside from Young, the 4-4 was half decent. The "2" let us down badly

Rooney (supposedly our best player) should have done a job on Pirlo that Charlton (our best player) did on Beckenbeaur in '66. Leaving him to roam around was scandalous. We're light years behind th etop teams. It was utterly embarrassing from the 25th minute onwards.

not ranted....i just think he tells it like it is rather than what the public and media at large imagine it should be.

I don't know if you can get a triple whammy of deja vu of deja vu of deja vu but, if so, that's what is prompted by this England performance. I honestly have no idea why English teams are so technically deficient compared to their Mediterranean European and Slavic counterparts. It is unfair for us to expect us to have an Iniesta or Pirio as they are exceptional even in the countries they come from but, God, why can't we actually retain possession and pass the ball. I really have no idea whether it is at a coaching level or what but things haven't changed, basically, for the past 20 years. Gascoigne was probably the last English player I can think of to have the footballing brain and talent of someone like Pirio but, frankly, I'm struggling to think of any others. Thank God I don't really care much whether or not England win or lose because if you do it must be thoroughly dispiriting.
I'm totally with the Rooney is overrated camp. I very much doubt whether he instils the kind of fear in the opposition that many England fans appear to think he does.
