Tottenham have nothing to offer though. It has to be between us and Liverpool (ergo McDermott vs. Rodgers), if all he cared about was playing for a bigger club he'd be at Liverpool already. They can't offer him first team football whilst Van der Vaart is still there - they could have offered him more money, but again, if that was all he cared about then he'd have signed for us already (if we have actually offered him more than Liverpool).

Not really true. Van Der Vaart is more than likely on his way, can't play a full ninety minutes anyway, and also with Modric also going to Real Spurs are short in Midfield...

Probably been mentioned before but if Gylfi felt that going to Liverpool was such a brilliant career move surely he would have signed on the dotted line immediately.
The stalling on his decision is the key to all this.
The fact that he is considering his next move so thoroughly may suggest that he's seriously considering going against
what would seem the obvious choice to the masses and feel what Reading have to offer him is a more attractive proposition for the next couple of seasons.

In the pub last night taliking to a Liverpool fan

me > confident of signing Gylfi then?
him > apparently its between us and spurs
me> and us we're still in the mix
him> what Reading? you sure? (puzzled look on face)
me> yes he's been in negotiations with us too
him> don't think so, why Reading? haven't heard that, don't think thats gonna happen .. (laughing out loud as he walks away)

That experience alone makes me wish he'd sign for us.

Spurs now 1/4 on and we've gone out to 20/1 - looking extremely unlikely

decided to take a small punt at 20/1 (will only allow a max £20 stake). now back in to 16/1 and spurs 2/5

If Modric and Van Der Vaart leave Spurs then I think its pretty inevitable Sig will sign. He won't be short of first team starts and would probably be their idea of someone filling in Modric's role because of his passing and shooting qualities.

The only way Siggy will come back here is if Brian and Anton work their magic with guaranteed first team starts (which he would get of course) and if Anton were to throw in a few cheeky little bonuses on top of a nice pay packet that he couldn't turn down. Whether or not it happens im sure whatever the decision it will be for the right reasons.

BMc building a team around you > watching Steve G from the bench.

However, ex-players/pundits frequently make a point about improving your game by being surrounded by world class players on the training ground.
Always a chance this may play a factor.

Money is always a factor of course like it would be with anyone's job. But Sig comes across to me as an honest person who wants to give himself the best chance to play at the highest level im sure if United were to come up against us in a bidding war. He would take the footballing factors into consideration more than he would the money. Shame the same couldn't be said about people like the Sidwells of this world who quite happily moved away turned down pretty much guaranteed first team football and choose to rot away in Chelsea's reserves for the big $$$s.

Maybe Gylfi should give SAF a quick call and ask him if he'd be interested in signing him in a season or two if he performs well at Reading. He sure as hell won't be buying him from Liverpool. :?

Harsh on Sidwell, He saw out his contract with us without once asking to leave. His performances were good all the way up to the end of the season that year. Then Jose came along, offered him a chance to play in the champions league and double his wages. I also believe he is good friends with Ashley Cole and John Terry? He was making a few appearences off the bench and the odd start under Mourinho until he got sacked. So he was hardly rotting in the reserves. It all went wrong for sidwell after the sacking of Mourinho to be fair

Essien, Obi, Lampard and Ballack? don't think he was ever going to really get much of a look in even from the bench. He must of known this himself surely.

Puts us on a par with Liverpool then, just Spurs to worry about.
