TheLawnMowerMan However, ex-players/pundits frequently make a point about improving your game by being surrounded by world class players on the training ground.
Always a chance this may play a factor.

Puts us on a par with Liverpool then, just Spurs to worry about.

Gerrard v Kebe then

"Small punt"... "only £20"... as a student I just don't understand this at all!

Ok - as a student u may appreciate this - you get a free £10 bet when you open a skybet account - place the £10 on gylfi to sign and you'll be £170 better off if he does (price now 16/1, plus £10 stake back)

btw Spurs now out to 4/6

Do you get the stake back on a free bet?

I don't think so... even The Sun with their free £1 bets say. No Stake back if winning bet comes in. Fair enough really, they could lose a lot.

Have to admit, I whacked a tenner on at 20/1 this morning when I saw the odds - too good to miss....

Logic says that if he was likely to sign for Liverpool, then he'd already have done so - yes, he gets on with BR, but there are many potential pitfalls for someone of his young age, which could lead to him ending up a benchwarmer (as per Hoffenheim - once bitten and all that) or worse, rotting in the reserves.

Swansea seems dead in the water, even Swansea themselves admit that.

Spurs seems a reasonable shout, but with no manager currently in place, it's still risky - yes, Modric and Van Der Vaart might go, but that's only a "might" (unless Spurs are telling Gylfi differently), so he could be in with a shout of regular starts, but there's by no means a guarantee.

With us, he knows BM, and the club. He will almost be guaranteed to have the team built around him (BM has already set a precedence for that once), so starts will not be a problem, we seem to be offering a very competitive salary, BM has close links with the players father. The only negative is the fact that our competitive level in the PL is unknown (we could be relegation fodder, we could challenge for Europe), but I'm sure that Hammond can come up with the appropriate clauses to cope with any threat of relegation, and the old adage of "never going back"....

Add to that the apparent noises coming out of Iceland regarding the matter and 20/1 looked like exceptionally good value for money...

bracksroyal10 If Modric and Van Der Vaart leave Spurs then I think its pretty inevitable Sig will sign. He won't be short of first team starts and would probably be their idea of someone filling in Modric's role because of his passing and shooting qualities.

The only way Siggy will come back here is if Brian and Anton work their magic with guaranteed first team starts (which he would get of course) and if Anton were to throw in a few cheeky little bonuses on top of a nice pay packet that he couldn't turn down. Whether or not it happens im sure whatever the decision it will be for the right reasons.

ie money.

Money is always a factor of course like it would be with anyone's job. But Sig comes across to me as an honest person who wants to give himself the best chance to play at the highest level im sure if United were to come up against us in a bidding war. He would take the footballing factors into consideration more than he would the money. Shame the same couldn't be said about people like the Sidwells of this world who quite happily moved away turned down pretty much guaranteed first team football and choose to rot away in Chelsea's reserves for the big $$$s.

I don't disagree with that summation but you said in your OP that Anton could throw in a few cheeky little bonuses on top of a nice pay packet that he couldn't turn down, a statement that would indicate you felt money would be the deciding factor.

I didn't check all the t's and c's;

I wanted to bet £50 at 20/1.

Deposited £50 quid and tried to stake it, then it said max bet was £20.

Then prompted me to ask if i wanted to use my £10 free money - said yes.

My net account balance was then down to £40, which I successfully withdrew straight away.

=> Net outcome is that my bank account is £10 lighter, but will be £400 better off if gylfi joins

The betting is, shirley, more dependent on who's betting for who? Our price is fluctuating depending on how many people are bothering to take the gamble I think.

This. People need to stop looking into our odds going up and down, until it changes dramatically which it hasnt there, there is nothing to suggest anything has happened. Bookies rely on the fact that punters might know something too, hence why odds drift when less people put on. Its not rocket science but people seem to think a move from 16/1 to 12/1 makes us highly likely to sign him, it doesnt

f**K!! reading now 8/1

gave up anyway, thinks i already have an account - er, nope

just to be clear for the stupid - my comment above means less profit if i was bet. It doesnt imply that he is more or less likely to sign for rfc or any other club
