Simon's Church Not sure why he'd want to come back to the club that so cruelly forced him out of the place he so dearly loved.

He wasn't forced out, the club needed to sell-there is a subtle difference

I would argue that it is not very subtle at all. Let's face facts here folks, we didn't want to sell but could not resist a fabulous offer. The money we received then kept the club going at least partially forwards and meant we could hang on to other players which allowed us to climb the table. Just as the sales of Mills and Long at the start of last season ultimately provided us with the springboard for getting back to the promised land, and attracting AZ with what could be riches that Reading fans from the 70s will probably just faint at. If we had not sold Sig then we would not be where we are now, end of. SJM was never going to continue putting his hand in his pocket for ever, and now he does not have to. The irony of this is that by selling Sig when we did, it has enabled us to be at least in the mix with clubs like Liverpool and THFC when he became available again. We may not get him, but at least we are there in the mix, and that is a staggering development for someone who watched the RFC team become a shadow of itself after the Bolton play-off final.

Reading4eva How do you know those figures. That would be a conversation had strictly in private. There wouldnt be one person making notes in that sort of thing. Unless you are his agent? :|

I dont think he was saying that was the actual transcript of the call.. I suspect it may have been tongue in cheek ..

Nice to see Scoobs still has that naive streak.

It was written by some mates

In today's Metro it was reported that 'Tottenham look set to beat Liverpool, Swansea and Reading to the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson.'

It at least implies we have made contact.

Well.....Noel could have said that he didn't know anything about it - but by saying "ask Mystic Meg" he's saying no-one but Gylfi knows who he is going to choose.....

So have the ITK people corroborated this with their "reliable" sources as yet to find out why there is a discrepancy between what is in the local media and what they have been led to believe.

I would be inclined to believe JF as the media generally haven't mentioned our name with Gylfi's and he'd be left looking rather stupid if it's not right and we do sign him or it is subsequently revealed we did offer a deal.

If Fordham gets most of his info from him and Twitter - then everyone saying Spurs is more or less a done deal, would lead him to post with (what he thinks is) certain accuracy that Gylfi isn't coming back here.

If we subsequently said we'd tried, but failed - Fordham could just say he was technically correct in that we hadn't "met" with him and his source tells him we conducted negotiations by phone. Or something.

I'm still :| about Fordham I'm afraid.

SHOW ME THE MONEY

http://uk.news.search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt= ... -31269282/

Sad really. I used to believe the hype about Gylfi that he was a true young professional that cared more about developing himself as a player than the money etc..etc.... But if he is going to Spurs as now being reported then it really is just all about the money these days. Nothing more and nothing less.

I suppose we should not be surprised.

If you had two choices, of basically the same job, and one offered you more money what would you do?

Also: If you had two choices, and one of them was to play for a rubbish team and one of them was to play for a good team, what would you do?

I moved from a highly paid job and set up my own business and now earn half what I used to but I am very much happier. How many millions do you need in the bank to be happy?

I would always go for the happiness/career beneficial move over the money any day.

You've not considered, then, that Gylfi might be going for the club which he thinks he'll be happier at - better chance of European football etc - and that the fact they are paying the most money is beside the point?

But footballers are stupid. Their agent plays a huge part in where they end up and agents can be heavily influenced by money...

If you've got as much quality and potential as Gylfi, there's no way Reading is the best career move.

Of course a relevant way of looking at it. On the other hand you could look at it as:

Join a team whom believed in you, where you made some great friends, who need you now and become a hero helping the underdog evolve into a contender, for a wad of money un-spendable in its stupidness. Or

Join some other f/cker for even more unnecessary money, like most of the other rapey c/nts in football would.
