Terminal Boardom The vast majority of the grounds in this country took their names from a road or are of the town or city obviously before money was king. Very little originality in that. Brentford's ground took their name from the local brewery - the Griffin being the emblem of Fuller, Smith & Turner I believe.

Pretty sure Griffin Park is named after the mythological Brentford griffin, allegedly seen many times taking flight over the nearby Thames, and that's why Fullers also chose it as their emblem.

Sorry, those flights weren't seen until @ 1984!

In 1984 , and possibly earlier, people began seeing a mysterious object flying around the West London Suburb of Brentford. Decribed as a winged dog or a large bird like creature it seemed to match the description of the classical griffin, a flying lion with an eagle's head. ..................
.......Brentford has numerous griffin connections. The original coat of arms of Brentford, unveiled in 1932 show a griffin, Brentford's football team is called the Griffins, though no one knows how and the local brewery at the time was the Griffin brewery. Again no one knew where the name came from though the trademark may have been purchased from another brewery that went out of business before 1900 and may have led to the naming of the football team and a local pub.

southstand67 Friday (East), Evans (West), Hicks (North) and Blackman (South) - although I'd love a stand to be called the Death Stand (especially the away end) 8)

Hicks doesn't deserve to have a stand named after him - given how he used to love hoofing the ball over them!
