As great a LB as he was, he couldn't give a shit in the relegation season, and as such I don't see why at 31 much would've changed.

I'd rather keep the fond memories than see him come back and not perform well. May as well hang on to Harte but definitely in need of a new LB because he's not getting any younger and I'm seriously worried about pacey wingers having a field day with him...

In BM we trust.

If he thinks Shorey is up to it I cannot see the harm of a 1 year deal. We can then hopefully get Mills out on loan at a Championship club to gain experience and see if he is good enough once he plays week in and week out.

What might've changed is that he's woken up to the fact he's got something to prove again. He's no longer the rising star, being involved with England and being linked with bigger clubs, who thinks he needs (and is likely) to move on to further his career.

My worry would be that he's realised he's probably got as far as his undoubted talent can take him and that might curtail his ambition and desire to prove himself.

I'd probably rather we looked at someone like Cresswell who's on the up and looks a good little player but if we want experience and proven ability then I doubt we can better Shorey on a free transfer.

Personally rather we'd go with someone a bit younger not that I have anything against Harte hes been a revelation for us since he arrived.

Just feel if we are buying a left back we'd be better buying one in their earlier 20s sort of 22-24 age or at least at an age where they have lots of seasons ahead of them.

Parr from Palace would go down well in my eyes.

Bump.

And I'm pretty pleased about this one. Not ecstatic, but pretty pleased. Always thought McDermott would start Harte as number one left back next season, so for a back-up it's not a bad signing at all - someone who knows the club and who has a point to prove, both to the Reading and West Brom fans. Personally think we'll still spend a bit of cash on a centre back and another midfielder, so in terms getting a left back on a free I can't think of many more out there I'd prefer.

I would have thought that Shorey signing would have been met with more excitement than this..

Its nice to see him back hes another who shouldnt have left but hey you live and learn.

Lets hope his 2nd spell is better than Kitson and Littles loan spells

Good bit of business again ..... we are going to reap the rewards if we stay up

Have barely splashed out on players in terms of transfer fees and apart from the Pog we haven't really had to dig deep into the pockets with wages.

Hope Shorey can replicate some of the form he showed during our 1st prem season I've only read a couple of articles on this and I must say there are a lot of people who are not happy with his return. But I suppose it was inevitable the jury would be out especially after some of his performances shortly before we went down never mind the circumstances in which he left.

Even if its a signing for cover its not a bad player to have for cover I suppose. With Harte's age there are the obvious doubts of him being able to play in all of our games this season!

Geekins
Pepe the Horseman I saw him at Showcase in Winnersh once and he was strutting around, throwing popcorn at people and shit. His attitude stank.

I saw him in McDonalds, Bracknell, popping little children's balloons with his spiky fringe.

And we're taking this guy back?

Fucking shambles.

He left like a bit of a knob yeh, but he was outstanding for his time here. Great delivery, good timing, gets forward well. has 3 years on Harte.

He was on the crest of a wave when he left. england call up, links with bigger clubs etc.

Good to see you back Nicky, Your number 3 shirt awaits.

Solid player, better than what we've got, he isn't going to set the world alight but good premiership experience and on a free. If we manage to stay up he's young enough to play next season and hopefully we'll look for a younger long term replacement.
