MassSarrslibrarian when has Jermaine Defoe REALLY EXCITED YOU

I wouldn't quite say "really excited", but Reading 3-3 Bournemouth.

I was at that game, and yes, he scored a goal-but one game, 11 years ago, are you really using that as your basis that we should sign the guy??

Nope, I was just responding to the question.

Defoe would instantly be our most important player if we signed him, but we won't.

bigmike We already have 7 strikers if you include Church and Manset also McCleary is down as a striker on the OS .. I think including the likes of Brett Williams theres 10 or 11 strikers at the club do we need another? Are we going for the Warnock approch and naming a team of strikers?

Doesn't mean that they're any good at the highest level does it? I mean, Manset vs Defoe? Yes we do need another striker. However it's the back four that needs some serious assessing.

Reading4eva £10 Million is extortionate... I wouldnt even say half of that. £3Million is around the right price

£3 Million? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Tottenham, selling a first team player for £3 million? Behave. He would pretty much ensure 15 goals a season, which, in the Prem, means £10m minimum.

MassSarrslibrarian If you look at his stats, 141 goals in 381 club games, that's bloody impressive, but, other than that time he scored 5 against Wigan (and let's be honest, that rugmuncher who carried the Olympic torch yesterday could have done that), when has Jermaine Defoe REALLY EXCITED YOU

Are we signing him because he's a marquee player, who's gonna win us games, and also be a complimentary signing to play alongside Pog, or Hunty, or ALF, or JR (that's Jason Roberts-cos we're NOT in for Jordan Rhodes), or are we signing him because he needs games to keep his England credentials up

Not wanting to be like Snowball but

Le Fondre has better stats

League games 203 (91) Goals 122

also Defoes a prick

Oh yes, I forgot that Le Fondre has been playing top flight football most of his career

No I was saying that Le Fondre has a better goal scoring ratio so that argument was flawed .

No you didnt you have just lost the ability to read my post that followed that saying Le Fondre has never had a chance to play at the Higher level so you cant say Defoe would be miles better than all but one of our current strikers..

If it was a personal choice between Le Fondre or Defoe I would pick Le Fondre

Defoe signing doesn't mean Le Fondre packs his bags. It just gives us a good 4 to pick from.

Hunt on the other hand, dunno. I don't think he's gonna get any better.

Yeah you're right; it was. Around 10% of Le Fondre's goals scored outside of the bottom two divisions. Around 90% of Defoe's goals scored outside of the bottom two divisions.

I personally dont think that Defoe is the right fit but if you guys do then thats up to you.

I also fail to see that theres an immediate need for him and most certainly not at £10m and 75k a week

Ever wondered why that might be?

bigmike so you cant say Defoe would be miles better than all but one of our current strikers..

Yes I can. And I'm going to say it now....DEFOE WOULD BE MILES BETTER THAN ANY OF OUR CURRENT STRIKERS. There you go.

bigmike If it was a personal choice between Le Fondre or Defoe I would pick Le Fondre

Ok, fair play. Thankfully it isn't your personal choice.

bigmike I also fail to see that theres an immediate need for him and most certainly not at £10m and 75k a week

I'd say that signing Defoe would massively improve our chances of not being relegated and missing out on ludicrously huge pot of tv money which awaits us if we stay up. Is that need immediate enough for you?

With all due respect, I think some need to move with the times.
With the new super deal that has been struck for the Prem TV rights, player wages are only going to go in one direction, as will the prices of proven prem level players.
I can foresee the day in the not too distant future, that if we remain in the Prem, there is going to be a Reading star player on £100k a week.

I accept the point about wages but do you think that Defoe is the saviour of Reading???

This whiffs of BS to me. Doesn't seem like a Reading signing at all. People suggesting £10m for a player of Defoe's age are off their head too. Spurs would be lucky to get half that.

They want Adebayor in permanently so as long as they get him off the wage bill I can't see them getting a huge fee.

What exactly does this do for the team spirit? The man who pretty much propelled us up the table last season will be rotting on the bench!

People are getting excited over nothing & I believe BM when he flatly denies it. Can't see us buying any more strikers now. We have enough. Back 4 is far more important now.

Personally, I'd rather we took an affordable punt on an up-and-coming star like Rhodes than jizz money over the back of a downward celebrity.

No one is making out that he would be the Saviour of Reading. We're pointing out that he would be the best finisher at the club and would increase our chances of staying up. If he's outside of what we can afford, fine, move on. If we can afford him and McD reckons he can get the best out of him, then go for it.
