bigmike I personally dont think that Defoe is the right fit but if you guys do then thats up to you.

I also fail to see that theres an immediate need for him and most certainly not at £10m and 75k a week

With all due respect, I think some need to move with the times.
With the new super deal that has been struck for the Prem TV rights, player wages are only going to go in one direction, as will the prices of proven prem level players.
I can foresee the day in the not too distant future, that if we remain in the Prem, there is going to be a Reading star player on £100k a week.

WoodleyRoyal massive lol's at anyone who would rather Rhodes over Defoe and anyone who would rather Le Fondre over Defoe

I don't think it's something particularly lolsome. IT's not about directly comparing Defoe's ability to another player, it's more about the whole package including longevity, compatibility, position and price.

for £10m there has to be a younger more ambitious player that would be a better fit to the Reading team out there than Defoe

There's that fella at Huddersfield - scored a shed load of goals last season - has he been mentioned?

+1

If that's the price, the way I see it it's:

10m +wages...... 10m +wages
--------------- vs ---------------
Defoe (skillz)......Rhodes (future, hunger, fit)
.....................Mariappa (strength in depth)
.....................Simpson (fix weak link)

I don't think that's an unreasonalbe position. I'm just not interested in an arrogant, ready-made, aging and expensive falling star as an alternative to exciting, hungry, growing promise.

People saying they would have Le Fondre over Defoe    defoe would be an amazing coup, its not a reading signing however.

If we get him and he miraculously decides to come to us then i dont see how we can complain? He is a proven prem striker who has the experience

if your saying you would rather have Le Fondre over Defoe are you really suggesting we should start with Hunt/ Pog instead of Defoe/Pog for Stoke (H)?

I too, would prefer Rhodes, Mariappa and Simpson to just Defoe, but you can't guarantee that Rhodes will manage the step up to the Prem or not.

That's as may be, but are the clubs currently holding these players' registrations prepared to sell ?
Would these players contemplate joining Reading ? Let's be honest, there are bigger, more glamorous suitors than us.

Its about who is available, who's prepared to come here, and can also do a job at the required level.
For me, If Defoe is available, and he's prepared to come here, (remember he played for that big club Pompey LOL)
I believe he could do a job for us.

Signing Defoe would have a lot of negatives attached... Yes he is a proven prem striker however hes a billy big bollox not sure what his ego would do to the morale in the dressing room. If signing Defoe is gonna cause issues in the dressing room with the other players then yes I would rather see Hunt/ Pog instead of Defoe/Pog in the first game. Maybe even Church/Pog

it has one negative and thats his wages, mcdermott's ethos works perfectly on everyone else why not on defoe? i can't believe you are seriously suggesting you would rather have hunt/pog over defoe/pog are you sure you dont have any health issues? :?

E-P is prob the only person to show some 3D thinking here.

That said, if he was hungry I would love Defoe here (on a 2 year deal max).

I do however think that if Le Fondre plays in a 4-4-2 team that creates chances and he has a partner who is good in the air/holding the ball up then he will score goals at any level including Prem.

Nope more than one Defoe is an ego .. He has always thought he was better than he is. Paying £10m for a 30 year old is also a bit much. He goes missing in far too many games throught the season then he will have a run of 3 to 4 games where he will score then will go missing for the rest of the season. If he is such an amazing talent why has he spent much of his time at Tottenham on the bench?

Not sure what my health has got to do with my opinion on if I would prefer Hunt/Pog over Defoe/Pog ? Is the 14 at the end of your username your age or your IQ?

Also because Spurs spent most of last season with one up front, a role Defoe can't play.

Spurs fans on their forum would bite our right arm off for 10/12M. They don't think he is worth it at all.

In fact what they are saying about Defoe sounds like many on here do about Church.

Not worth 10M, not a RFC signing and cannot see any chance of it happening at all.

14 is my lucky number actually  if he scores goals which he does then why not take him if he wants to come to us? he scored 17 goals last season from the bench for a team fighting for champions league, imagine what he could do here. £10m is about right for an England international who is a proven prem striker, i can't see us paying that much though.

In that case Lets sign Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand .. Oh wait we did sign Les Ferdinand but he seemed to have lost his bite as he had got older.
