i really hope that we can pull this off. if defoe doesnt want to come to the club though, then its his loss not ours.

It kinda is our loss. I don't think he'll be too bothered that he failed to complete a dream move to the royals though!

Well he went to Portsmouth before so it shows he's not afraid to go to the less glamourous clubs if they throw a wheelbarrow full of cash at him. I fully expect this to be tied up by Wednesday of next week.

If not you will be down about £2500 from your earlier posts. Hope you can afford it. Just have never believed this was likely at all and still don't.

If this is typical of the decisions he makes in which... box to score in... then perhaps he wouldnt be too good a signing..

this won't happen, it's all on his agents side trying to flush out bidders

to be honest we have dodged a bullet by not going for this guy, the classic mistake nouveau riche clubs make is buying up older players on huge wages, let's not do that

anyway we have lots of strikers as it is, get a few out before getting another body in

how many are good enough to score in the PL? I give you Pog Roberts and Alf, get the rest out of the door, we need a proven goalscorer to come in.

I hope i'm wrong but i think Hunt could sink without trace this year. With Roberts and Pog, we'll need a poacher and proven finisher. Hunt isn't quite it.

Defoe is, but he's such a nasty bastard. I think Alf should be given the chance.

Same for me, but Maguire backed up FL on Defoe being at the training ground yesterday. So there has to be a lot to this. As Ups and Downs says, Defoe went to Pompey who were far less glamorous than we are now, with this money, the set-up, the plans to expand etc. Throw the money at him and we could have him. I'll believe it when I see it, but bloody hell times have changed.

Well I started this thread and I spoke to my source again today. They stated again that this deal is still very much in the offing.

Like has been previously stated, my god how this club has changed recently.

between you, fl and mags, my penis is crying tonight!

i can't believe we're even talking to a current england international. if 45k is a limit, as people are speculating it is, surely thats not enough to get defoe? we must be smashing our budget to get him. i hope this doesn't turn into another pompey in a few years. what a rollercoaster!!

I suspect we'll see Hunt take over the Church role. Come on and work over tiring defences and keep things solid if we're ahead. ALF will continue as a super sub if we're behind. Certainly Hunt is far more able to fill in for Roberts than ALF or Church are IMO.

What about Roberts and Pog? If we get Defoe then surely Pog and Defoe will likely be our main strikeforce?
