Friday's Legacy and said he was a Tottenham player...

As in "I don't discuss other club's players"? I'd have thought so, but I haven't seen the interview.

Nothing we wouldn't expect him to say, just the smile and way he dealt with the question left you intrigued.

Could be Kyle Naughton, we need a RB to come in. I heard Brian had said two players in at the fans' forum. This would make sense with the need for a CB and RB.

A little more on here about it. Definitely interesting.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... lmost-done

Brian McDermott is confident Adrian Mariappa will be a Reading player on Monday and claims to be closing on another of his top transfer targets.

Sky Sports revealed on Friday that the Royals were looking to lure Mariappa away from Championship outfit Watford.

An agreement has now been put in place between the two clubs, with the 25-year-old set to complete a switch to the Madejski Stadium once he has passed a medical.

"We have got a formality to take care of on Monday and I think once that's done and dusted we are hopeful of getting him signed on Monday," Royals boss McDermott told Sky Sports News HD.

"He's a character, a fantastic character. He has done really well for Watford over a period of time.

"For a young man he has played a lot of games, he's got good pace and as a character he will fit in with what we are trying to do here - as has been the case with all of the players I have signed."

McDermott has been busy bringing fresh faces into his Reading squad this summer, as they ready themselves for a return to the Premier League, and he hopes another piece of business will be completed in the not too distant future.

He said: "We have made an offer for a player which has been ongoing for a number of weeks. We will wait and see.

"No names, not at the moment. He's in England, it's a player that we have targeted for a number of weeks now. We are hopeful that we can get it done."

Reading have been linked with an audacious approach for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe, but McDermott has been quick to rubbish the rumours.

He added: "Jermain Defoe is a terrific player, he's a Tottenham player, and I don't think he'll be coming to Reading somehow."

A good point bringing this back to RB. SSN said one or two could still come in, but yes this could well be a right back he refers to coming in next week.

Friday's Legacy The Sky Sports interview was interesting when asked about Defoe. Brian confirmed the player he hoped to bring in next week in addition to Mariappa was from over here and not abroad. The reporter then said he wouldn't be doing his job properly if he didn't ask for a name, and McDermott then responded by saying he wouldn't be doing his job well if he told them... Sky then asked if the player in question was Defoe, which brought a rather coy smile from Brian, and said he was a Tottenham player...

Sky Sports are showing the interview again in around 5-10 minutes.

That reads to me more like Jordan Rhodes than Defoe

Well it seems clear it isn't Defoe, he has said no then in that interview it quotes him saying he's a good player but can't see him coming here.

We have previously been linked to Bassong but that would be a cost now considering we are bringing in Mariappa. A RB is needed we don't have sufficient numbers.

Saying that I can't see where he has said it's a Tottenham player anyway.

If he's not playing Defoe down then that sounds likely to be Simpson or another right back. Either way, and interesting week ahead with hopefully two more new faces.

He was asked by reporter if it was Defoe.

Reporter also mentioned, after talking about Mariappa, that Brian had mentioned two additional players, so one more? Then Brian mentioned offer for this player, been working on for a couple of weeks.

I'm just uploading the video which I recorded on my phone. Won't be great quality but at least we'll see that wry smile at the end.

Brian sounds like he might be ITK, but his posturing and then deliberate teasing makes me think that he's little better than bigmike.

if he has been around hogwood then he must be thinking about it for him to make the effort to come down to see everything... if he wanted to just talk about offers he'd just speak on the phone to us.. but with the video about marriapa and questions about defoe i think alls not lost with him because when asked mcdermott was smiling like a cheshire cat and seemed to be hiding something..
