Wax Jacket
davis69 What do you actually get from your star membership??

The chance to sit on a coach with no leg room , full of people looking there going for a lovely trip to Bognor Regis to play some bingo rather than going to a football match. :o :o

I'll stick up for Bognor here as I've a lot of friends in the town

there's more to it than bingo

Have you ever been to Sheiks?

This is pathetic. It's almost as if Brian gave away top secret information to a select few.

It was a good evening and Brian was as honest as he usually is, but he said absolutely nothing that he would not say in public.

Thats the age old line however to get elected to make any difference you must get several nominations from those already in the inner clique..

On that basis I should join the BNP and Al Quada as well since I don't really agree with their ideals or the way they're being run.

Not that I'm directly comparing the BNP or Al Quada with STAR, before anyone from the BNP or Al Quada complains.

plenty of anti-STAR chanting on Saturday. I assume they'll be moving their little tin hut to a more sedate part of the stadium for the new season :?:

Such a non-constitution. Its just drivvle.

New constitution:

• We arrange coach travel
• We hold highly secretive forums to military standard

FFS - this would all kick off when I was away!

Anyone reading this board for more than a couple of years will know that I am an ardent anti-STAR person - this isn't the first time we've asked about the fans forum and never had so much as a tidbit of info from it - because we don't pay our £10, so we're not PROPER fans. What happens to the £10 by the way?

I will say, we do need someone to organise the away coaches and they seem to do a good enough job of that, but Denny and Colin have been doing that for years, long before STAR came along. I can only repeat what many others have said on here, in that STAR board members just like to think they're "close" to the players/management and it's all well and good being asked to join "if you don't like it" - as I have been told on here on many occasions, but who out of the current clique of board members would accept me and how could one person on their own change things to any degree?

It needs a separate entity set up - but the club wouldn't afford us the "honour" of fan's forum, or any proper link to the club because we would want to let ALL fans know what was going on and they don't want that.

I would, however, respectfully suggest that STAR change their ethos - they are not representative of all FANS and until things change so that ALL FANS feel included within the club and its goings-on, they never will be.

EDIT: And ditch that bloody number 13 flag or bring it out a lot earlier please, so I don't have the fukking thing draped over my head when the players come out. Thaniks.

There seems to be 20-30 people on here who want change RL, so if you all joined STAR and started proposing some changes then you'd at least have a solid starting point.

Moreover, if as some posters are suggesting, this is a widespread feeling of displeasure with STAR then you should have no problem adding a few more on top of that and really being able to effect some changes and having a considerable presence on the board.

If the majority of fans are of the opinion that fans forums should be free, open and disseminated instantly then you could by all means try and organise those sorts of events. However (with no slant against you or any other fans group.. and I include the Tilehurst End in this) I very much doubt you'd get the club to agree to put up Brian McDermott up for that type of event or any significant player or club official for that matter. There's just too much damage that can be done with quotes being taken out of context etc and its far safer for the club to then sit back and release it's own edited interviews and transcripts, or let the national media do it.

Perhaps I was too hasty in jumping on Cypry and some others originally and now see that some sort of compromise needs to be reached between those fans wanting to hear information from the forums and those that have arranged them and have had to make certain promises to the club and those involved.

Perhaps in future there should be a policy where a transcript, given the green-light by the club/Brian etc, should be released 48 hours after the event thereby giving something to all fans. It gives a little nod and extra benefit to those who have joined STAR and made the effort to attend the event, it protects Brian and the club from any PR headaches and also pleases the fanbase at large who get the key points before they are totally out of date.

I'm all for going with what the majority of the fans want, however I don't really feel that a small (albeit vocal..) group of people, some of whom's idea of being proactive is making a few comments on a web forum or on twitter, are necessarily entitled to demand changes to an elected group, open to any Reading supporter that has served thousands of its members generally well for a number of years.
