Michael Owen has hinted that he will retire from football if he cannot secure a deal with a Premier League club.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker has been released by Manchester United and is hoping to find a top flight club to continue his career with.
And the 32-year-old revealed in a series of tweets that he would not be prepared to drop down into the Championship.
'If a good opportunity doesn’t come my way then so be it. At this stage of my career it has to be something that I’m going to enjoy doing,' he tweeted.
'Not being disrespectful when saying I wouldn’t play in The Championship. Always said I wouldn’t drop down the leagues like some have done.
'I know I can still bang them in at the top level. I proved that nearly every time I played for Manchester United. At 32, still got a few years in me.'
Stoke are the only Premier League club known to have expressed an interest in Owen, while the striker has also refused to rule out a move abroad.

Reading4eva From the Daily Mail site... apart from being the worst written article ever:Michael Owen has hinted that he will retire from football if he cannot secure a deal with a Premier League club.

I think now, if we do sign Defoe, this is a non starter for us. But I expect it his greed. He expects a wage good enough for the top 4 or 5 teams, but noone else. I think he'll go to West Ham or Southampton, and end up in the Championship anyway

Possibly. If I am, the ghost has a massive wang and great sense of humour.

mathematically_safe i was going to precede all this with a disclaimer but it's been a tedious summer so far and i can't be ars*d.
ITK/WCBAP/DODD/Fat Mike/FL/STAR etc
allegedly (sigh) Ex- England's Mickey Owen will be an RFC player by the end of the week. 12 month pay as you play deal. the 'attraction' of RFC (beyond the fact we're mug enough to dabble a contract) is the proximity to the Lambourn/West Berks racing community where the perma crock is planning on relocating to in order to do horsey stuff.
yeah, i feel the same as you. at least it's not raining
