Reading FC Player

Would any current subscribers care to comment on how worth while this service is? It appears that every news item on the official website carries a link to a video and you need to be a registered subscriber to view the content. It's going to be a long dull off-season while we await top flight football and I'd like to relive the previous few months action during the summer.

So, please post all feedback here. Up the Royals!

Its ok. No better, no worse than 'ok'. Every time i go to watch a video i have to log out and back in again as it doesn't recognise my subscription to begin with, technically its shocking but especially at the moment it may be worth it as obviously it's interesting when we sign new players, promotion footage etc. Highlights are poor i think, commentators aren't Reading and i think commentate on the footage not at the match.

I'd invest on a monthly basis, that's what i do as sometimes i cancel it and pick it up again!

If you don't get to many matches and don't live in Reading... it's absolutely essential.

You get live radio commentary.
Pre and post match interviews with McDermott,
highlights of every match (usually better than Football League show ones)
the full 90 minutes of virtually every match available to watch a couple of days later...

For about £35 a year.

And I have no problems with logging in or out. The live feeds rarely go down these days either.

Used to be a subscriber but packed it in after BBC Sport started doing the highlights online.

This is part of the 'About HNA?' section:

Recently Premium TV (NTL), the Football League, and Football League clubs struck a multi-million pound deal to publish all official club sites.
We don't like NTL.
We love Reading Football Club.
With the club locked into a continual battle to become a Premiership club commercialy and the possibility of multi-million pound internet deals, the club have been forced into a position to restrict popularity of unofficial websites. NTL and the Football League believe one of the more effective methods of bringing visitors into the official sites is to restrict material available on unofficial websites thus forcing visits to official club sites. Their mission to restrict information available from unofficial sites could well bring to an end many sources of free information for fans of all Football League clubs in the near future.

We urge Hob Nob Anyone? readers to support all non-commercial unoffical sites, and the official site - but do not spend a penny on any Premium TV / NTL services linked from the official site until they review their Internet policy.
This site will continue to support the club although the club can no longer support this site.

Couldn't listen to the game on Saturday as it just cut out constantly.. See the Palace match thread.

Normally it's alright though.

I've just had a peep at this for the first time.

THE VIDEO QUALITY IS APPALLING

I can't believe the marketing bods aren't a little ashamed at plugging such a shoddy product - there's just no excuse for it in this day and age. The videos are the same sort of quality you'd get streaming a game of iraqgoals or something.

Avoid unless you're an exile is my advice.

It's a pretty sad life if you can't survive without football for a few weeks in the Summer. We've only got Euro 2012 and the Olympics to watch.

You can complain the club, but it can't be their fault as I don't think they actually put the videos on the site, the "player" service just has some numptys who can't encode videos for the web working for them.

I wonder how long it is until they can dump player and get some professionals in.

Yes, a complaint might be an idea actually.

Anyone else get three emails last night regarding Reading Player price increase, all within a minute of each other?

We are currently working on improvements to Reading FC Player that will give you an enhanced match day experience.

For the 2012/13 season you can now:

Pause live audio commentary and rewind those breath taking moments.
Watch extended match highlights in high quality 2MB flash video.
Access your account by using your Facebook log in.

So that we are able to provide you with these new and improved features, we will need to increase the price of your subscription slightly. As of 01/08/2012 your subscription will start to be billed at £37.99 per year, an increase of just GBP2 per year.

We hope that you will continue to enjoy using Reading FC Player in what promises to be an exciting new season for Reading and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support.

I feel cheated - I was only offered £42.99 and £37.99 - but they were 40 minutes apart. Not sure how much I paid last year so can't work out which applies, and whether to cancel or not (working away from home I used to use it for the midweek commentaries but there won't be so many this year). Waiting to hear club's response.

I've figured it out..

One is if you pay fr it all upfront, the other is if you pay for it all upfront but by your credit card, and the other is if you pay monthly, hence the difference prices.. Mainly a £2 increase..

Living in Manchester, I'll be renewing for the home games (nothing beats sitting at home listening to Dellor on a Saturday afternoon :? ) but I'll be at all but four of the away games

I could as of yesterday, decided to watch the Forest highlights again.. No real improvements apart from the layout, though I look forward to it actually working.. There was no working volume control, or any buttons for that matter on the player console itself. £37.99 seems good value when a ticket for the Chelsea game is fifty odd quid.

I'm OK. Was already on a renewal ... in November in my case. The new price kicks in then.

If for geographical reasons you can't get to many games, it's no substitute for the real thing, but definitely worth it.

(PS yes, did also receive the notification 3 times in quick succession.)
