Ascot United 1 - 1 Westfield on Saturday and it was the first time we've had ground hoppers at a run of the mill pre-season and no team sheet in sight. Me thinks it could it have been down to playing on the Garth School 3G pitch?

I've already had enquiries for the previously scheduled Ascot United v Marlow United at the same venue on Tuesday but that match is off.

By the way ground hoppers are always welcome at Ascot United and for those travelling epic distances and sometimes by train we have been known to offer hospitality (and a programme of course).

Windsor 1-3 Wycombe

Very impressed with Windsor. Against obviously decent opposition we were never given much time on the ball but passed it about in tight positions very well, rarely resorting to the long ball which did rather characterise our play when under pressure last season.

Ryan and Jake Parsons were absent, as was Kyle Anthony, so 3 important players missing but new boys Tripp and Houghton looked like excellent acquisitions and young Ben Harris has matured into a strong and lively forward with some very nice footwork, especially evident when bagging his goal.

Not a great deal of goalmouth action but I enjoyed the game - if we build on that then we'll be Top 2 again this season without a doubt.

and then folding in January?

Diddy drew with Oxford the other night, following on from their good show vs the Ding kids. Pretty certain Diddy will be in the top half this year and quite possibly playoffs. Signed some good players at that level.

Seems Truro have money problems again. Talk if 700k owed but they dispute this.

Happens time after time after time in non league.

Have you seen the potential FA Cup tie if results go as hoped?

Windsor could be playing Didcot in the 1st Qualifying round if we negotiate our two qualifiers first!

So a 1 in 16 chance then. not exactly that likely.

First up, we have to beat Flackwell Heath and that will not be a stroll in the park. They stuffed us well and truly last season 3-1 in the Vase.

Can't wait for that one. It'll be absolute carnage.

Can I ask you a serious question? You don't really care about the outcome of piss-ant little fixtures like this, do you?

... nice contribution to the thread by the way

------ and no my Anorak comes with eleven layers of imperviousness-ness - any stress over results I've got in spades from following RFC for eons.

I watch NL (when I can) BECAUSE for me its a break from caring about bigger outcomes - and plenty of others on here seem to appreciate reports from the struggles of lower levels and below of the NL Pyramid. 8)

I do feel for genuine fans/officials of clubs like Trowbridge Town (in a former guise finished 2nd in the top level of NL, now confined about 8 levels lower, down in the Wiltshire County Leagues playing on a park pitch in front of about 30 odd on a good day) or Bracknell Town for example (hardly as lofty a past admittedly). Some of them have seen their clubs fall about as low as they can. It can give a warm and fuzzy feeling to go to such places and see how much effort some of them dedicate to what is their true calling - when all they appear to be getting from on the pitch is humiliation, tragedy and torment. Often clubs in the worst excesses of adversity; give the friendliest of welcomes to all.

Conversely its also nice to see an erstwhile 'piss-ant' outfit, start to climb up the lower levels of Pyramid from small beginnings - especially one's attempting it mostly on their own merits and not where excessive impetus has been provided externally to the existing club. (eg Truro, Team Bath and far too many more besides - sorry TB nearly wrote W!^%sor & E$o^ there! )

90 pages of it would suggest it's not just him

FoC does a brilliant job of letting the average NL football anorak (the 'real football fan' etc) know what's going on in the Reading area and beyond. sometimes way, way beyond

Thanks ...

... by the way my reference in the preview above to the 'new' AFC Croydon Athletic in CCL1, playing where the old Ryman Croydon Athletic were, was wrong - for this season anyway - the 'new' club will be playing over with the 'other' (CCLP) Croydon - in the Sports Arena.

Virtually nowt ... and now only by looking them up: -based in Carlisle play in Northern Football League Div One - until this season they were known as Gilford Park - seem to be some sort of 'tribute' club to their more illustrious namesakes from Mother Glasgee?

Play in the green/white hoops too?

...probably lots more about them on NL Matters forum.

... and here of course (once its built! )
