With Steve Clarke, former Chelsea assistant, as manager - this wasn't that surprising.

But doesn't that increase the possibility of Long coming back?

Long can`t be a first choice there now, he needs to move on.

shane spent about half of last season injured, wba's manager forced him to come back before he was fully fit. so his goals to games record is what it could have been. granted, he is still one goal in four last season. also in a lot of matches he was just a sub. if he started for us he could be a 10+ goals a season striker probably get 15. i believe in long and i know he has it in him. wba has 5-6 strikers now so it could be a real shot if shane puts in a transfer request.

rather we look at long in january, likelihood of him playing is less by then and we can then maybe snap him on loan with view to permanent

Aside from the goal he hardly got anything out of Pearce all game.

Keith Mandement: This pool's been open nearly 40 years, and, in all that time I only slipped up once, to my mind. I was engaged in a particularly tricky word puzzle and 40 people had broken in and were in the pool, playing around, ducking, bombing and doing all manner of prohibited activities, and eventually someone was killed.

Interviewer: But given that your sole responsibility is to maintain the security of the pool, isn't that an indictment against yourself?

Keith Mandement: Well, I would say this - I've been working here for 18 years, and in 1975 no one died. In 1976, no one died. In 1977, no one died. In 1978, no one died. In 1979, no-one died. In 1980... someone died. In 1981, no one died. In 1982 there was the incident with the pigeon. In 1983, no one died. In 1984, no one died. In 1985, no one died. In 1986... I mean, I could go on.

Decidedly unimpressed with Lukaku, spent most of the game looking distinctly average and getting in the way or just getting it wrong. Doesn't necessarily mean he's bad, just an impression from one game.

He needed the ball delivered straight to him, a la Berbatov. Didn't move much and seemed petulant whenever things didn't quite happen.

I saw him at Fulham too. apart from his physicality I'm not overly impressed. Yet.

Lukaku will one day be a regular at Chelsea so we've no chance of securing, although I read somewhere that there is an option for west brom to sign him for a further seasons loan next season...if we could get him, even on loan, he'd be a brilliant signing, he was the stand out player at the west brom reading game, one of the best forwards I've seen at the mad stad in ages. Quick, very strong, reacts and reads game quickly, great positioning, can head goals and shoot with both feet, will chase lost causes and create opportunities from nothing. Much better than anyone we have had up front for years.
