The clubs are still talking. I've been told Zaha is currently our only focus; so it seems we have now given up on Rhodes. If a deal can be done, then it will be a record transfer for us. You have to assume further talks would take place tonight with Palace being in town. So now we just wait and see. A decision could come early to mid-week next week. I don't know exactly what that means; deal signed, or fee agreed; and I don't like adding times to things, so treat that with a pinch of salt, as we all know things can change very quicky. The player would still need to agree terms as well.

Big Ern The fact that Palace want 7million for him and we won't go much above 2million means no official bid will be made.

As of last week we hadn't made an offer, but we had spoken to Palace, and suggested we would be prepared to pay a great deal more than that. I'm hoping to hear more this weekend. He's a very reliable source.

From what I've heard we don't want to pay much more than that upfront. If there is a deal done expect the rest to be appearance based.

My source is very reliable as well regarding Palace matters. Even suggested taking one of our players in part exchange or on loan as part of the deal. He also mentioned he still does not expect this one to go through.

Big Ern has been reliable in the past. Between him and FL we at least know we're in talks, but as both have said, that doesn't mean we'll get him. I'd hope we had a plan b or c though.

Last time I checked Mexico City was not in the States.

And with regards to solid connections and keeping up with them, then welcome to the magical world of telephone, Skype and emails.

Never posted info with regards to possible targets before so your guess is as good a mine as how reliable my info actually is, but considering my source, it should be good from a Palace view point. FL will be a better source about what our intentions are. I will pass on what a get, your choice if you believe it or not. I will just wait and see what happens, but this guys agent is a bit of a greedy bugger, so agreeing the fee will be one of the easier hurdles in what may be a complicated deal.

My source gives this a 30% chance of happening.

If the rumours of £6m plus being wanted for Zaha are true, and them wanting the bulk of that upfront, then I can't see us reaching a deal with Palace (only opinion). If we were prepared to go to say £3m up front, Church and some add-ons then perhaps it could happen > just speculation from my point. Zaha or not, I'm glad we're still looking at bringing in one more striker. I'm not convinced Hunt or Church will offer much in the PL. Hopefully something will come off before the window closes.

Nothing to say Zaha even wants to come to Reading ...he's been linked with a number of premiership clubs and he may simply want to bide his time, even if a deal could be hatched with Palace...personally I dont see Reading spending anymore, but agree another striker would have been nice...

BM has already said he now has his "2 players for each position".....sounds like his dealing is over

Well he is hardly going to say there is a gaping hole up front in case we cannot bring any more players in

The thing that makes this a possibility for me is the injury problems with Kebe and now apparently McAnuff meaning we only have two wingers fit and neither are first choicers. Oh and Obita, but he could do with a League One / Champ loan... perhaps make that a part of the deal...

Palace fans think they want £8m. He hasn't done nearly enough to justify that fee, so I think that's a load of bollards. I can't see it happening. Not if we need to find £4m and offer a player and probably addons.

Can only hope tho.

All jokes and speculation aside, what is the chance of this actually coming to fruition before the transfer window shuts?

I, and others, believe that we have been interested for some time. Virtually every potential problem (Transfer fee, Wages, Agent, etc.) have indeed occured but, time is ticking and I believe that Zaha wants to join the Prem now. I would love to have him at RFC but it has to be a deal that we can live.

Sly Sports have just posted a video of McDermott saying the same old "I have got two for every position." Surely he must realise we need a striker? Starting to seem a bit unlikely for me... :|

That is two of us then. I am not sure where this overwhelming need for a 5th striker in the squad has stemmed from (and, if you allow for recalls for the loanees it would give us 7 or 8 strikers).

Two players for each position would be Roberts /Pogrebnyak for the 'big front man' and Hunt/ ALF for the other one? Looks pretty much ok to me I have to say.

He also said he wasn't "overly" looking to add to the side, but if an opportunity arises...

"Summer has been good. We've signed seven players," McDermott told Sky Sports News.

"We've got the group that we had together last season and we're looking forward to Saturday."

Asked if he was looking to bring in more players this summer, McDermott said: "Not overly. We've got two players for every position which is what I always wanted.

"If something comes off late in the window then maybe but there's nothing in the pipeline."
