I still think they will want more than that, and to be honest I would probably pay it. The few accounts I have read said he played well last night, which has not always been an easy thing to do lately if you are playing for Scotland. I would still like Alfie to be given his chance though.

Why take a £2/£3/£4m gamble and lose one promising CB and a striker that may yet turn out ok for the sake of another striker that may turn out good? As others have just said, £6m would get a decent premiership striker, i.e. Long

I did muse on the thought that with RVP now going to Manure, whether it might be worth a sneaky loan request for Welbeck or Hernandez, nothing to lose, not like either will be automatically first choice.

alfie does deserve a chance, im hoping he will partner with pog for most of the season. jordan rhodes will probably be more of a sub when we need a goal or two for now unless he can prove himself immediately and get 10+goals this season.

Scotland's fine win came at a cost not just to McGregor, with Rhodes, who scored in his first full start, James Morrison, Alan Hutton and Danny Fox all also coming off the pitch early carrying an injury.

Yorkshire Post Chief Football Writer is at the Cardiff game and confirms it's a smokescreen. There's a deal being done somewhere.

Richard Sutcliffe ‏@RSootyYPSport
Rhodes is sitting behind press box at Cardiff so to those cynics (!) asking, no he hasnt been sold and the 'injury' is a smokescreen..#htafc

Poorly worded then, as many have taken that for what it says.

Yeah I think that's it. Reckon it was just a slip and he wrote "is" instead of isn't. But then he also writes 'injury; ?!? I know it's only twitter but I'd expect a bit better from a journalist.

TheSiege If Blackburn were to buy Rhodes, given their apparent lack of anything in regard to football sense, it would say little for RFC. We have been interested in him for the last year and only the price put us off. Can a pathetically-run Championship club buy a striker that we need and we do nothing about it! His last performance, international, when he scored again, should have re-whet our appetite. This is a player we need before someone else gets him!

He signed today. Press conference to announce it is tomorrow afternoon.

Very disappointed we didn't take a punt on Rhodes. IMHO a serious chance to buy a young striker who will command huge transfer fees in the future, and score a lot of goals.
