LUX well played WBA, I enjoyed that.

ditto Sunderland. Hopefully yet another barren year for Arsenal. nospacey-o

Why?

Arsenal are the only top side that don't have a vast transfer net spend most seasons.

Deadlock
cmonurz For an apparently insignificant mid table team, Liverpool are still getting a lot of interest on here.

We could be in a relegation fight with them.

I would have thought there would be more joy about the 5-0 thrashings suffered by teams that we are likely to be fighting off in a relegation battle but no we get stupid posts like this.

dislikes are not rational. I grew up with an awful Arsenal generation (dull, dirty. Their fans celebr8 this still). I also know a few of their fans in Lux and they are utter utter utter <fill in insult>. Plus, as Floyd points out, they are the original flat track bullies. Against us four times for example

Ideal Liverpool w/Rodgers are obvious relegation candidates, I hope he stays in the job until after the 2nd transfer window after Xmas closes. They'll be doomed, he'll sign a few more Borini style rubbish additions, and they'll go down. Hopefully they'll sell the ponytail bloke to some other club, and be stuck with that.

Reminds me of a certain Northern Irish Liverpool manager.

cmonurz I'd be genuinely interested in what evidence you have collected that shows Liverpool fans to feel they warrant a license to be a great team today. It's natural that when a team experiences a lot of success, expectations will be higher - when that success has spanned 20 years, even more so. If Manchester United started a lean period now, do you think their fans' expectations would be lower in ten years time? Of course not, they would still get to August each year expecting a title or believing they can win it.

Evidence, you mean the current belief that they should be top 4, nothing ever being good enough, the utter bollocks they spout on various forums and during most interviews. I don't think I have seen a Liverpool fan say something realisitic/level headed like, 'We've been poor for a while now, we could do with spending a few years rebuilding and restructuring, investing in a team for the future'. It's always 'We are Liverpool, we are better than this, players aren't good enough for us' etc.

No Man Utd fans wouldn't just lower their expectations immediately, but I doubt that as long as 20 years after their reign clearly ended they would still have such expectations. Actually Man Utd fans probably would, but they are pcunts aswell.

No offence, but that's rubbish, even Rodgers has been wary of stating that top 4 is an aim this season, in fact he's warned there will be 'more days like today', referencing the 3-0 defeat, as he tries to turn the club around.

I read Liverpool forums from time to time and there is plenty of realism on there, perhaps you're not digging hard enough. You clearly read them quite a lot, to be finding stuff like 'so and so isn't good enough for us' etc.

Ultimately though, I'd ask why you care. Is some, even maybe a majority, of Liverpool fans thinking they can finish 4th any different to a majority of Reading fans thinking they can stay up this season? To an outsider, both of these might look equally unrealistic.

It would be interesting to look at his past managerial record and see how he copes when things are going wrong.

So early in the season TMD hasn't even threatened to flounce yet if City win it.

Thought these stats interesting - highlights that Liverpool simply never replaced Owen (as it that wasn't obvious).

Shot conversion rate - as a comparison the average rate in the PL in 11/12 was 13.3%

2011-2012: 9.13%
2010-2011: 13.59%
2009-2010: 13.32%
2008-2009: 13.46%
2007-2008: 12.52%
2006-2007: 10.56%
2005-2006: 10.59%
2004-2005: 11.61%

Liverpool do seem to have the habbit of ruining strikers. Have nothing particularly against Liverpool but as a reasonably interested England fan I hope Carrol leaves ASAP before they burn another decent player.

Agreed on the general point that strikers haven’t thrived at Liverpool, but it does depend on the type of player – until he went off the boil Torres enjoyed the Liverpool system, but he’s that sort of pacy striker who pulls wide and runs at defenders. In a similar way – his awful finishing aside – it’s why Suarez has been so effective as an attacker. There’s little point being a target man or goal poacher at Liverpool, there’s nothing to connect with or poach.

Not sure what Borini brings to the side – it’s always seemed a very English approach to buy a striker then stick him on the wing, but maybe he played there for Roma. He looked lost against West Brom though.

Oh @ LOL at editing to add that last sentence about Rodgers, when it's about the only irrelevant criticism you could have made of him.

It is vastly amusing to see the Bodgers we know and love giving the Scousers a taste of his Reading experience, i.e.:

1. Bombing out players he's decided he doesn't fancy before barely seeing them play.
2. Recruiting (or attempting to recruit) his former players irrespective of whether they're actually needed or beeter than he's got.
3. Imposing a playing system irrespective of the players at his disposal.
4. Talking absolute bollocks on a regular basis.
