According to Wiki he has only made 68 senior appearances! It just seems weird to me that he's been happy to warm the bench for the last 10 years and isn't looking to be first choice at a championship club. Surely as kids when everyone wanted to be a footballer you didn't dream of signing for Man City and sitting on the bench not making a single senior appearance for 3 years!

Agreed. Being a keeper constantly sat on the bench would seem about the worst possible scenario for anyone who loves playing football. Must also be strange almost hoping that your team mate gets injured or sent off!

You beat me to it. I had this conversation with a relation of his when he signed for City. He had options to go and be first choice at other clubs, yet decided to go and warm the bench at City.

68 appearances in nearly 15 years is disgraceful. A 32 year old with zero ambition. I really hope we don't sign him.

I agree about his "non" career - but providing he can do a job in an emergency surely he is exactly what we need - someone without ambition who will allow Andersen to go out on loan.

Otherwise Andersen could end up in the same boat with a non career in 10 years time.

Stuart Taylor to sign for Reading.

Taylor agrees Royals deal
Keeper to pen one-year deal at Madejski Stadium

Sky Sports understands that Reading are poised to sign former Manchester City goalkeeper Stuart Taylor. As revealed by skysports.com last month, Taylor was training with Reading after leaving City at the end of last season. Taylor has impressed during his stint with the Royals and Brian McDermott is keen to add him to his squad. The 31-year-old made just one appearance for City during his three-year stay at the club, finding himself playing back-up to Joe Hart. Taylor is expected to sign a one-year deal at the Madejski Stadium as their latest signing ahead of the new season. The former Arsenal and Aston Villa keeper will provide cover for Royals No.1 Adam Federici.

Meaning McCarthy and Andersen should go out on loan?

i would be surprised if they both went out on loan. we will need 3 gk's in the squad. feds, taylor and one of McCarthy and Andersen.

The previous plan was bring Taylor in and loan out Andersen. If the Pompey loan has fallen through, this must mean we have another club lined up for him.

What role would McCarthy play if Taylor does join? Surely he is better than being our third keeper.

What it means is that we can loan out one of the two as a season long loan, before we wouldn't have been able to do that as we'd lose the power to recall one of them if Federici had a long term injury. Now we can loan one out for the season and still loan the other out on shorter loans.

I'd like us to send both out on loan, they are never going to realise their potential sat on the bench or in the ressie's.

i see what your saying but i wouldn't be comfortable without 3 goalies in the 25 next season. having said that i dont know anything about the others like Henly, maybe he is good enough to be third choice. can you have a recall option on a season long loan?

We obviously decided we were in real need of a keeper perfectly happy to just pick up his wages whilst keeping the bench warm for the whole season.

Just do not understand keepers who would rather go to a 'big' club and perpetually sit on the bench, rather than drop down a level or so and almost be guaranteed regular game time.
