Doubting my football obsession is a strange move.

I saw all 5 of the Black Stars games in the last African Cup of Nations - he started at least a couple of them. I also saw some Marseille games last season.

Looks pretty impressive here against the Arse - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHXSpjKz ... ure=fvwrel

Can you imagine Rhodes contributing as much to a game?

Looks more two footed than all of our wingers combined, so that's a plus

cmonurz Have to smile inside that £3.5m on a player some of us have seen play once or twice for Ghana, and who has a poor goalscoring record, is considered 'worth a punt', whereas Jordan Rhodes, who we all know about, is seen as too much of a risk at £2.5m more.

Paying 3.5 mil for a 20yo Ghana international who has played for Marseille in the top division and has had a small taste of Champions League football, is a much smaller risk than Zaha who has played Championship football and would cost 2-3mil more.

Same with Jordan Rhodes - Only scored consistently at league 1 level and Huddersfield are asking for 6-7mil is too much IMO. If Brian and Hammond think a player is worth it, then i'm happy to back them

Barry the bird boggler Also, isn't he the son of Abide Pele or some other leading Ghanaian player?

Yep,

Think a few people might be confusing him with Andre Ayew, who has played for Ghana a lot and also plays for Marseille and is also the son of Abedi Pele

Just read up on him some more and found out his middle name is Pierre, in a world where we want footballers to be more like Olympians this can only be a good thing.

I''m back in.

Very different players - like Andre as well though. Hard to tell if Jordan is what we need, he looks to cut inside a lot rather than crossing. If there is any truth in it, maybe McDermott thought we lacked a cutting edge until McCleary came on. No one else was going to have any joy one-on-one.

Well, it's hit the French media now. According to the articles over there it's 'bid accepted', whether their source is solely the Times (which most credit) is a different matter.

From what little I saw of OM fans earlier the general concensus seemed to be €4m was good money for him, he'd been overpriced by the club and that's why bigger teams weren't coming in for him. Didn't appear to be a massive loss, but for us being a smaller club I guess their threshold is higher.

Very good point. The club record signing (if it happens) by some distance is now 'worth a punt' apparently.

Google translate gives a similar impression.

And one bloke asks if he'd want to go to a "Wooden club like Reading"! Wooden?
