After all the effort we put in less than 72 hours ago...today would only have had one outcome IMHO.

TalkSport reported that there has been a torrential downpour in Sunderland since 8am this morning. At around 1pm they dropped the ball in each corner and it didn't bounce. Nor would it roll, and apparently there was a substantial part of the pitch with standing water on it. TBF it does sound like freak weather and an unplayable pitch.

Gutted for the travelling fans.

For the team, this could be a blessing in disguise. I'd expect they are knackered after the Chelsea match and the long trip up after a game on Wednesday couldn't have been helpful.

Sod the travelling fans! What about me? I decided to watch this game on the net rather than go to Aylesbury to watch Windsor play.

And because of that I agreed to take the Mrs to Sainsbury's at 1.30.

Now that's a proper bad day right there.

Depends how much rain they've had, drainage systems can only do so much in a set period of time. But it'd better have been one hell of a downpour.

Just heard BMcD on Talksport saying that it would not have been abandoned with that much rain at the Mad Stad, and that he thought there must be a problem with the (newly laid) pitch.

Sunderland can afford to splash (pardon the pun) out on new players but can't get a proper drainage system.

Agreed. It is a disgrace. Even torrential rain shouldn't be causing problems for a Premier League pitch at this stage of the season.

Feel really sorry for all the Loyal Royals who have travelled all of that way. Sunderland should reimburse all of their travelling costs - it's not like they can't afford to.

Maybe STAR will sort it.

All those who travelled on STAR coach will get their money back thru insurance. Sadly doesn;t apply to train and plane travel, I expect.

Proving conclusively that STAR really are pants as a supporters club service then eh!
