You see, Mr Mad said at the beginning of this TSI thing that the stadium name would remain the same, and I did say at that time that as TSI are majority shareholders, albeith with 51% against his 49% they could do whatever they bloody liked and he'd be powerless

Anton has said himself that stadium naming rights will be looked at at some point. At the end of the day, this is a business, and they will want to capitalise on all revenue streams; and stadium naming rights cannot be ignored.

RL and FL, I fear you are both right that Anton wants to rename the stadium in the future, for commercial reasons. All I'm saying is I don't like it, but if it has to be done, at least keep the Madejski name in the title.

Had it been Elm Park then I'd give two hoots, but it's the Madstad. A plastic and often far to welcoming new stadium that bares the chairman's name. I'm not bothered if his name is removed and Pepsi or something equally shambolic replaces it. At the end of the day none of us have to call it by anything other than what we want to call it. For me it's just the football ground, to you it can always be the madejski stadium. No one can force you into calling it anything. Renaming it just means a few million a season extra in the coffers and the wage bill can increase slightly, as can Brian's budget for new players. For me that gets a resounding yes!

I like the idea of keeping Madejski in the name. I can understand why Newcastle got so irate, but i agree with Dare to Dr£am above.

It'd be worth approaching Broadmoor to see if they're up for sponsoring it as the Broadmoor Mad Stad.

We allow them to change the stadium name.

What then?

The kit colour, as they did with Cardiff?

Why not rebrand the whole football club? We could be called the TSI Blue Hoops.

You say, what's in a name, what does it matter? As long as we have some extra £££ it's fine by me. But what about what we lose. How can you put a value on the history of the club, the history that has buit up over years.

Names are important, they tell us who we are and where we're from. If they weren't so important to us, why do we keep the same name through our lives. I suspect, like with so many things, we would regret losing the Madejski name from the stadium only after it is too late.

I hate it when club's change their ground names. Our ground IS the Madejski, the Mad Stad - whatever you want to call it - I don't know how much naming rights would bring us in, but going down that route could mean the name of the ground changes every few years surely? And I don't know about everyone else, but I REALLY don't want that. I thought, having richer owners, we wouldn't need to sell out to all this name changing malarkey. How wrong it appears I was.

Surely we'd be called TSI Red Hoops or summit if they change the kit colour?

^this. Speaking from a business perspective this is the right move. As long as the name will stay the same for a great deal of time and not a couple of years. Give sjm a statue and try and keep madjeski in the stadium name if possible and most fans will be pleased. Having a extra couple millions for new players will overwhelm the negatives.

Madejski only named it after himself to feed his massive ego. Most normal (modest) people wouldn't name it after themselves.

It's not even like we can call the stadium something else since this was it's original name. New Elm Park sounds good but you say that and nobody knows what you are on about

This stupid myth keeps coming up. In actual fact, somebody else (I think it was Nigel Howe?) suggested that it be named after the chairman and he wasn't keen on the idea at first.

Some of you need to get over your green-eyed jealousy of John Madejski.

Sorry but doesn't he have other things named after himself as well?

Why is it jealousy to reach the conclusion he named the stadium after himself (he had the final say) and to comment that it is an egotistical thing to do?

Well, he has invested a lot of money in various projects, so I don't see the problem.

BTW, it's not a unique case here. Other stadiums have been named after chairmans too, Kassam Stadium in Oxford being an example.

Rather it being called the Madejski Stadium than the Emirates (or some other sponsor) Stadium anyway.

Yes!

John Madejski has done so much for Reading Football club and has achieved wonders. He can do what he wants. He deserves that right and also deserves gratitude and respect from the fans and the town of Reading. People name things after themselves all the time.
