RoyalBlue I don't think it was to the extent that feds has been criticised, nor do I recall chants against him during games. Also I would wager that every other one of our strikers has made as many mistakes costing goals/points as Feds has.
It is not a level playing field - dish out golden boots but how often do you hear about golden glove awards? GKU

Schards#2Ian RoyalSchards#2 I think a further 2 games is fair enough but it's a difficult call as by dropping him you would totally shoot any confidence he has left. What happens then if McCarthy has a poor start?
It's not as if he's an unknown quantity, we know he has it in him, he's just having a bad run. I can't see what gimps slagging him off hope to achieve though, if they think Federici or Brian aren't away that his performances haven't been great, they're living in dreamland. Vocally criticising him can only possibly make things worse so what on earth are these bellends thinking of?
If dropping him breaks him, then he needs to retire or drop down the league because he isn't good enough to be a Prem keeper in that case. If he's any good mentally, it'll kick him up the arse and make him come back stronger. You can't pick a player in poor form who's costing you goals and points because dropping them might make them cry.
If McCarthy's shit, we put Taylor in and recall Andersen / buy a new keeper.
Are you seriously suggesting McDermott won't drop a player because it might make them cry, do you really think that little of him?
He's picking Federici because he thinks he's our best keeper, when he no longer thinks that, he'll drop him. Plenty of outfield player have a run of poor form without being slung out and the faith shown in them can benefit them in the long run.
I like McCarthy but he doesn't have a lot of experience for a top flight keeper and I'm happy to back McDermott's judgement as to whether this is a blip for Federici or a long term confidence slump. He hasn't got a lot wrong so far as a manager.

RoyalBlueIdealRoyalBlue And (this is not aimed at Hunt) a striker's job is to put the damn ball in the net. I have lost count of the numerous occassions our strikers have failed to perform that part of their role and god knows how many points their glaring failures have cost us over the years! However, with the notable exception of the likes of McIntyre and Church, I don't recall the failing strikers being subjected to the same type and level of public criticism and abuse as Feds. GKU
Errr... you don't???? Have you been living under a rock?
Shane Long was described as fat and useless.

No, I was using rhetoric to counter your rubbish point about it ruining him, not seriously suggesting McDermott wouldn't drop someone in case it might make them literall cry

Stuboo I am still in the give Federici time camp, but if he makes serious blunders in the next two league games then it's probably best to drop him for a bit.

Extended-Phenotype I'd be happier with dropping his clanger ass now, but I'd not lose any sleep if we gave him the break to pull himself together and give him one more game to prove himself.
But let's not overly worry about his paid-millions-to-do-90-minutes-work-a-week, mercenary feelings.

its not caring about his feelings though is it.
its caring that his feelings about making these clangers, and then getting dropped could destroy him as a player, and hes our best keeper, and most saleable asset in that area
also if mcarthy comes in, and also doesnt playu well, what the oxf*rd do you do then
