So you don't think dropping him after his first bad run of form in years would dent his confidence further?

Genius

Hang on, I say dropping Federici will damage his confidence, you say "that's a rubbish point", I say "so you don't think dropping him after his first bad run of form in years would dent his confidence further" and you say that's not what you said

Could you ask you two functioning braincells to sing from the same hymnsheet and let us know what the view from the armchair actually is?

You said he shouldn't be dropped because it could damage his confidence and ruin him as a player.

I said that's a rubbish point because you shouldn't play someone out of fear of making them "cry" by dropping them.

You said I thought McDermott wouldn't drop him in case he cried.

I told you I was taking the piss out of your post.

You then said I didn't think dropping him would damage his confidence.

My view, which is already on here and I think directly above the post I made quoting your original stupid point, is that Federici deserves another couple of games after the break to prove he can recover and if he's not improved significantly he should be dropped. And I don't give a shit if it damages his confidence, because a) he won't be playing and b) if being dropped for playing shit damages his confidence to the point of ruining him for us, he isn't strong enough mentally to be a Premier League goalkeeper. And it can't make him much worse at the moment anyway.

It's not hard, if you try very hard you may be able to get past your dislike of me, engage your brain and work it out.

For me McCarthy should start the next game. If Feds gets upset then good. I wouldn't expect any player to be happy when dropped.

RoyalJames101 If you don't like Federici, fine, just don't be a mong about it.

That's the problem - a significant majority of HNA posters are just that, mongs with the intellectual capacity of cottage cheese. It's a cross we've had to bear for generations.

Corrected for you

cmonurz
RoyalBlue I remain entirely confident that Bibbo and McDermott will make the right call in terms of what is right for Feds and the team.

That's great, but there's not much point to a discussion board if we posted that on every thread.

You mean the point of a discussion board is for total amateurs to bleat on
with hardly any inside knowledge and (often) very little intelligence.

There's a balance to be struck and the thickest Academy kid is probably better informed than the best of this list.

1. Is Feds FULLY over his rib injury?

2. Why is he wearing strapping to his right knee (three games at least) Note that Feds wasn't quite right even in the warm up v Stoke

3. Is there (no idea) some issue in his private life?

4. IS THERE an issue with the ball? There DO seem to be a lot of keeper errors so far this season.

(Once a keeper feels the error is his fault then there's a confidence issue)

5.CRUNCH. Would dropping an out of sorts keeper HELP (or destroy the keeper) or might he come good in 1-2 games?

6. Does the manager think the current Number 1 keeper is A LOT better than his understudies or is it close?

7. When the manager considers dropping the keeper, does he not have to weigh other things like "avoiding knee-jerks". Would an outfield player be dropped for a few problems?

Ouch, don't think Schards will be getting up after this^

Anyway, Cmonurz is spot on. Whether or not Federici should be dropped is a debate that will no doubt split opinion over the next couple of weeks. However those who do believe we'd be better off with a 'keeper who isn't going through a fairly obvious crisis of confidence aren't being ridiculous, irrational, or reactionary. They are merely expressing a pretty valid opinion.

There's no place to hide as a Goalkeeper, and I don't think it's one of the positions where you can play yourself back into form. He needs to get his head sorted out.

E.g. De Gea at Man Utd. Had a shocking start to last season, was dropped for Lindegaard, and then came back later in the season a much better keeper.

LoyalRoyalFan Same people reading out the same lines over and over again.

'He was the best keeper in the Championship last season'

Well, we might be in the Championship next season if he continues to make mistakes.

Quite..... I had to smile to myself when that mong Dellor referred to Federici as 'a world class keeper' in the BBC Berkshire match preamble. He's certainly not that........

To me, when he's himself, Federici is a very, very good keeper. Just to throw this out there, who do you think is better (at their peak) Federici or Hahnemann? They're much the same, to me.

When this break is over he should come back and treat it like it's the start of the season. The break couldn't come at a better time for Feds and it will give him time to recover from any niggles he may have. If he is still struggling after a couple of games then by all means bring in Taylor and give him a break.

Taylor?

Bring in McCarthy - who is better than Federici as well.

oxf*rd LOL. On what basis? A handful of games that he played for us at a time when the defence were superb and he didn't have that much to do? What about his loan at Ipswich? Looked average at best. Not saying he won't be better in the future, but for now, no chance.

FWIW I think Andersen is better than McCarthy and will be our next number 1.

We all know BM won't drop him for the Spurs game. If I had to bet on it, I think Feds will have to drop another 3-4 clangers before BM even looks at it.

We seem to be putting McCarthy on a pedestal. I like him as much as anyone else but fcuk me talk about a baptism of fire! He'll be immediately under immense pressure & having not ever played in the PL before that could be quite daunting. Be careful what you wish for.

Hahnemann for me, but then I always give the benefit of the doubt to the 05/06 side in comparisons with later players.

The defence weren't superb. It was slow and immobile and contained Matt Mills. We were leaking chances at times. In particular, think of the match against Leeds where McCarthy had to make 4 or 5 great saves, and the match against Man City where Gunnarsson played centre back and Karacan right back.

Contrastingly, Gorkss and Pearce is probably one of the best centre back pairings we've ever had, and last season Federici didn't have a great deal to do much of the time. Of course, great goalkeepers do nothing for three weeks then make a great save in the 80th minute, but it isn't true to say McCarthy played behind a superb defence, particularly as Federici's is much better.

Incidentally, McCarthy is very highly thought of at Leeds and Yeovil. He was fine at Ipswich except for that disaster match against Leeds.

In-form Feds has the edge for me (a year ago I was in a tiny minority of about 3 saying that) but McCarthy is very close, and Andersen isn't far behind.

Yes, Anderson is a good keeper too, from what I've seen and heard. I also liked Ben Hamer - he was excellent for Brentford - and felt it was a bit of a shame we sold him.

Still not sure which would be more damaging to his confidence, being dropped now ("you're a great keeper, you know that, but things aren't quite right at the moment and you need some time to work it out of your system. You are a big boy and I'm sure you can take this on the chin just like any other player") or being picked for another game or two where he produces more mistakes to have nightmares about, costing us more points, earning himself more bad press, fan rage and player frustration, and then being dropped.

I genuinely don't understand people on here who think players in a squad game get "destroyed" if they are rotated. Is Le Fondre in bits right now? What about McCleary when Kebe comes back? Had Gunter been dropped after his penalty would we have found him floating face down in the Thames?

Retarded mindset.

Really? Really? Really? You can't understand why squad rotation of outfield players is different to replacing a Keeper?
