Seal Thank you Phil. I wasn't going to other replying to RR's typically condescending post, but you summed it up perfectly.

BR trades on being this implementer of glorious possession football. Whereas the reality is the only time it has been successful is when he inherited it at Swansea.

I don't have anything against him personally, it's actually probably the lazy media generalizations that annoy me more. However, he's made himself a very wealthy man landing the Liverpool job based on this image and his ability to talk a good game, so live by the sword die by the sword...

Rodgers Reading team was starting to play decent football and creating a fair amount of chances.

If he was given time to finish the job then I'm pretty sure he would've done so. His problem was not being given the time and backing he thought he'd get from the board and that meant his work was cut off far too early.

Yeah he obviously made mistakes, and tried to change things, but the suggestion that he failed at Watford and Reading is overlooking both the progress he'd made and the situations around his departures.

Will he get more time at Liverpool? I'm not sure he will, but he's been stitched up a tad if they said he'd get Dempsey if he moved Carroll on. Clubs with budgets running tight cant afford to buy before they sell at that level, to then fail to get Dempsey could really come back to haunt them.

PieEater
Alexander Litvinenko When you've set out to be a passing team that's all you can do. Can't change the style if you are committed to it.

But you can work your socks off to not give the better passing team time on the ball.

Exactly, doesn't matter how good a passing team you are you still have to stop the opposition and win the ball back.

Wasn't one of the mantra's at Barca that they had to win the ball back in 6 seconds?

United at their best have always been one of the hardest working sides and that's key to their success.

Charlatan = fraud, cheat, fake, sham, pretender, quack, con man, impostor, fraudster, swindler...

Are you really comfortable with labelling Rodgers as any of those? I mean really? Or do you have a different definition in mind?

Looks like FSG are realising the money-pit that owing a competitive PL team actually is.

Liverpool's owners say they will not damage the club's future with "risky spending" but have pledged their commitment to the club.

In an open letter to fans, main owner John Henry said: "We will never place this club in the precarious position we found it when we took over at Anfield."

Liverpool are without a win in three games in their worst start to a season for 50 years.

Henry said he was disappointed at their failure to add a new striker.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted he would not have allowed Andy Carroll to join West Ham had he known he would be unable to strengthen his squad.

Rodgers let the England striker leave for Upton Park as he was convinced he would bring in either Fulham's Clint Dempsey or Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge on loan.

The Reds boss, who has the option of recalling Carroll from his season-long loan in January, insists he was not misled by the club's American owners, Fenway Sports Group, over transfers.

oxf*rd me you really are a bore. There are many definitions of the word. I am sure you can find versions that support your argument, here's one that supports mine soundly enough.

"A person practicing quackery or a similar confidence trick in order to obtain money, fame or other advantages via some form of pretense"

I can break it down if you want but hopefully that will do for the point I was trying to make, i.e. he trades on a pretense that he has yet to prove he can successfully implement, other than at one club (where the foundations suited him perfectly).

Is there anything wrong with having a view on how a team should play?
If he is interviwed by the Press he will give his view, the same as a manager of a side in Reading & District Div 7 will have a view.
Whereas the manager of Swansea or Liverpool will get asked the question by the Press the Reading & District manager won't.

He may have talked up his relationship with Jose and all things Chelsea when he was with us but IMHO it was the wrong job with the wrong set of players at the wrong time.
Mr Mad panicked and the rest is history.
If we are bottom in November will Brian's modesty and chase everything- long ball football be derided on here in the same way as Rodgers' passing game has been derided when the chairman/owner sacks him because we are bottom of the Premier League.

Have a go by all means at Rodgers' lack of success with us but there seems no point in mocking his football philosophy when it worked so well with Swansea.
BTW if Rodgers was supposedly lucky in getting Gylfi as an earlier poster suggested how lucky was Brian to get Roberts?
Both signings made significant differences to both clubs.

Royal Rother Huh? You seem to be suggesting that Rodgers not deserve credit for getting Sigurdsson in.

How does that work then?

On the contrary, it was a great move and one that certainly saved Swansea for a relegation scrap.

Even you are now prepared to admit he successfully implemented his philosophy at Swansea.

Coaching / Academy at Reading = SUCCESS
Academy / Reserves at Chelsea = SUCCESS
Watford Manager = SUCCESS
Reading Manager = UNSUCCESSFUL / MAYBE TIME CUT SHORT EARLY
Swansea Manager = SUCCESSFUL
Liverpool Manager = WE SHALL SEE

Charlatan? Do me a favour. He's quite obviously one of the game's bright young coaches.

Not sure it's entirely fair to label Rogers a charlatan. That implies he knows he is rubbish and is deliberatelly selling a dud, like a con man. Is that what you mean?

If you mean that he genuinely believes in himself, but doesn't live up to his own hype, then that's different. I guess time will tell.

Personally, I believe he is a promising young manager, with a lot of potential. He has already had success at Swansea and Watford. I think he will be a top manager in the future (unless the Liverpool board wreck it for him first).

Coaching / Academy at Reading = Really? What did he win?
Academy / Reserves at Chelsea = Really? What did he win?
Watford Manager = finished 13th after initial 2 wins in 10 games
Reading Manager = 2 wins out of 22
Swansea Manager = Playoff final victory. 11th in PL. Hardly a runaway sucess.
Liverpool Manager = 0 wins in 3 league games.

RR - we see what we want to see. Your success criteria bar is set pretty low for a manager of Liverpool.

I don't see anything more than managers like Steve Bruce, George Burley, Steve Coppell and even Roy Keane have done.

I’ve no idea what his actual stats were as an Academy boss, but it’s fair to say you probably don’t get poached to run the Chelsea academy unless you’ve done well at Reading, and you don’t keep Mourinho’s ear after leaving Chelsea unless you’ve done a good job.

Woaaaah there. I have to pull you up on mentioning Coppell in the same terms as managers like Bruce and Keane. If you think that Coppell is just a bog standard manager then it suggests you have very, very high expectations. Coppell did a fantastic job for us with the resources he had.

Rogers had success at Watford and Swansea bearing in mind the teams he was managing. He would hardly have got the job at Swansea if he was rubbish at Watford, would he? And he would hardly get the job at Liverpool if he was terrible at Swansea.

I'm merely highlighting his relative lack of sucess to the position he now has obtained compared to a lot of his peers in days gone by.

Listen folks - I actually want Rodgers to do well. I just don't buy into the RR love in as the facts just don't back him up at the moment.
