West Stand Man
stickywhisky Vs Bury League cup game in 1995 at Elm Park, I went to the replay after the original game was abandoned after 30 mins or so with Reading 2-0 up, started the replay at 0-0!

Surely the wrong way round. The original was abandoned with Bury 2-0 up? It certainly was for me, I seem to recall Phil Stant scoring the second just before the ref decided it was too wet to continue. Having driven up from Yeovil in the rain (having checked before I left that the weather in Reading was ok - it was awful in Somerset and must have followed us up the 303) we arrived about 10 - 15 mins late, got into the ground and watched about 5 mins of footy before being despatched home in the rain.

Anyway, back to the original purpose. My first game was v Brentford in the 60/61 season. Hooked from that day forward.

I didn't go to the original game, you may well be right - I was pretty young at the time!

1979 a "shock" 1-0 victory over Rotherham in our League run that culminated in a narrow defeat against the might of Division One side Southampton. However, it was not my first ever goal, as Reading scored when my brother took me for my first lavatory experience in the South Bank Sewage works, a traumatising event for an 11 year old and something that I am still having counselling for in 2012.

April 1979. Reading 2 - 0 Portsmouth.... as a glory-hunting 5 year old.

Reading 1-2 Barnsley in 96/97, Trevor Morley got out goal. I was a jinx even back then, went with a mate who had started going earlier that season, he’d watched 8 games or so and we’d won them all without conceding a goal, until I turned up.

Taken as a nipper to my first game around the late 80's, early 90's. Dont remember any of it as I was so young... as always has to be against one of the old foes, and was against the original Aldershit

First I can remember... Luton in the 1995 playoff season

10th January 1957 Reading 1 Wrexham 2 FA Cup replay. The winner was due to meet the Busby Babes, typical Reading to lose out. Maurice Evans was playing in one of his first games.
That Man U side could have been the greatest British team ever, but most of the players were killed in Munich air disaster a year or so later Twenty of the 44 people on board the aircraft died in the crash. The injured, some of whom had been knocked unconscious, were taken to the Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich where three more died, resulting in a total of 23 fatalities with 21 survivors.

Manchester United players who were killed

* Geoff Bent
* Roger Byrne
* Eddie Colman
* Duncan Edwards (survived the crash, but died in hospital 15 days later)
* Mark Jones
* David Pegg
* Tommy Taylor
* Liam "Billy" Whelan

Many reckon Duncan Edwards could have been the greatest English player that ever had he lived.

Have so many memories of Reading FC have seen so many characters over the years, Ray "Bomber "Reeves who hit a ball harder than anyone I have seen. Dick Spiers,(R.I.P) was n´t a dirty player just appeared to be. Johnny Walker who scored with a rocket from 40 yards on his debut. Robin Friday ......

Ups and downs, Maxwell, defeat to Bolton in the play off final, coming from 3-0 behind at home to Plymouth and winning 4-3. The highs and lows are endless. I could go on for days rather than hours.

Reading FC is a great club we may not have won too much, but usually the club has been run ethically. My dream was always to see Reading FC in the top division, now my dream is to see them make the European Cup.

Had a few chats last season with Johnny Walker at the ground and at his local in Theale. Nice fella, hope he is still managing to get along to games this year.

Bolton v Reading at Wembley 1995.

And there's a nice symmetry to it as my last one was Swansea v Reading at Wembley in 2011.

1980 or 1981. Discussed this very subject with my Dad last week. Neither of us could remember the opposition, and we are pretty sure Reading didn't score. He said I must of enjoyed it though, because I am still going.

Reading 3 Gillingham 1

I believe it was 1967, although may have been a year earlier. It was the game after we lost the cup replay at home to Manchester City (0-6 or was it 1-6?).
