Hoop Blah Snowball I doubt if you will find me being a huge supporter of Federici, either.
And I have predicted that McCarthy will play for England.
You're not backtracking there are you snowball?
I'm pretty sure what you said was that McCarthy would be Englands number 1 keeper at some point, not just 'play for'. I rate him pretty highly but I think that's a very bold and, to be honest, daft prediction.
Well you are wrong.
(a) I'm not back-tracking over my opinion of Feds or McCarthy
(b) I have NEVER said I thought McCarthy would be England's Number 1 goalie. NEVER. All I have ever said is I think he'll play for England (meaning the senior team.)
There's your chance. Go find me saying he'd be Number 1.
(c) For me, this thread is not about who is the better keeper now, or who will be the better keeper some time in the future, It's about knee-jerk reactions over a few mistakes, with a new ball that has (apparently) caused many other keepers to make mistakes. Mistakes made by a keeper who played a hugely significant part in winning us promotion last season and also had 20 clean sheets.
I believe McCarthy has
the potential to become a better keeper than Federici. He's a good shot-stopper, has the height, commands his area and has also shown VG ability at least at Championship level. Feds, howver is hardly an old man as keepers go and still has improvement in him. He has also shown the ability to face certain weaknesses and overcome them.
While it's a (small) worry that Feds has made a few errors it's hardly yet Armageddon.
